Good one. Fox and low-key are two things that I always associate with each other. If Fox knew that the show was going to end in May of 2007 they would already be hyping “Only 75 more episodes of The Simpsons remain”.
I wouldn’t put that past Groening, but as adam pointed out, FOX would hype the piss out of it!
Hasn’t the Sea Captain, at least, been named? Captain MacAllister or something similar?
This contest is over! Give that man the $10,000.
Perhaps it’s because I’ve recently been on a Shakespearean comedy binge, but I think the show should end with several marriages. Perhaps one of them could involve Disco Stu.
But damn, writing the final episode is going to be hard. They’ll want to have something major happen to all the major characters, while at the same time making good use of virtually the entire cast of minor characters, because people will get pissed if any of them are left out. And you have to be emotionally meaningful without getting sappy. And you’ll have to work in some contemporary pop-culture references without overdoing it, or else it violates the spirit of the show.
There was some talk of a movie recently, too. I don’t know how that might effect the finale.
No problem. We just replace “Ottoman” with “La-Z-Boy”, and voila! Updated for the modern world.
I don’t see why they couldn’t make it longer, at least. A two-hour grand finale would give plenty of room to throw all kinds of stuff together.
Of course, I’m not known for brilliant ideas…
It would be cool if they had scenes with EVERY character that appeared more than once. That might take more than 2 hours, though…
