"The Simpsons" series finale - no info

I was wondering about what it will be like, and about series finales as a whole. Should they break all the rules they so carefully kept to all these years or should they keep doing the things they do that made them so successful in the first place.

Like Comic Book Guy, if they haven’t revealed it by then should they do so? How about Tad Hogswallow

Or what state they live in.

I’m sure there are more but they don’t come readily to mind. But I say go for it, break 'em, break 'em all.

If they haven’t revealed what by then?

Fenris

I thought they had revealed that they were in Springfield, Kentucky some years ago?

Nope, they’ve revealed what states they aren’t in on occasion (it’s not Springfield, Missouri for example), but never revealed their home state. In fact, one episode they crossed out all the states they weren’t welcome in any longer, and the only state not crossed off was Nouth Dakota. For a lengthy discussion on it, you can check out here.

I’m guessing Osiris means the Comic Book Guys’ real name.

Thunderbug, in the “Behind The Laughter” episode, two season ago, one of the final lines is “This Springfield, Kentucky family”

I really wished they had saved the Bible Story episode for the series finale, because Homer Simpson actively RUNNING INTO HELL would be a perfect way to end the show.

“GAH! German Potato Salad! OH GODD!”

I think it should end with Homer and Marge waking up and they’re back on the Tracey Ullman Show, bad animation and all.

They should all die in the end. Nuclear war, anybody? Or better yet, nuclear meltdown.

Nothing ends a good story quite like the death of every character.

But recall that while this may have been the home town of the Simpsons, it is not necessarily the home town of “The SImpsons.” The narration was in reference to the family that created and starred in the TV show, not the characters they played in that show.

God, that would be perfect!

By god, Otto, that may be right!!!

I think they should bring in Osmodiar the little green alien that only homer can see, and also have Patty marry the Bee man, like Troy McClure predicted

I have truly been living in a pop culture cave! I had no idea that this was the last season of the Simpsons!

I think they should parody other series finales. I’m not sure which ones. The only one that comes to mind is the Seinfeld finale which sucked. Maybe a parody of that could be funny, though.

And don’t forget, one can be a Kentucky family but still not live in Kentucky. I know a couple of New Yorkers who now reside in Chicago.

I think a fitting end would have them all sit down on the couch (like the beginning couch gag) and have Maggie say “bye-bye” and everyone look at her in amazement. Call me an old softie, but the show began with sentimental endings all those years ago, I think it should go out the same way.

I know I may be opening myself up for a whooshing but…

No, no, no, no, no, no, no! This isn’t the last season of the Simpsons; we’re just speculating what they should do when they should decide to call it quits. (Fox would happily run the Simpsons until 2525 if they could.)

If I’m not enamored with the idea of them closing out the show in the Tracy Ullman style bad animation, I’d join on with this idea.

Wait a minute, the bad animation idea is kinda like a parody of the Newhart season finale, isn’t it? They could do both!

I can’t believe no one has suggested this-

Smithers FINALLY comes out! Come on, it would be perfect!

FTR, in the “Behind the Laughter” episode, when they re-ran it later in the season, they changed the “Springfeld, Ky” to some other state,(Ohio?? I can’t remember), so no luck there.
Guin-

Comes out of what? hehe

And oddly enough, when they played the repeat of that episode, instead of “Springfield, Kentucky” it was Missouri, I think. I know it wasn’t Kentucky (I would have been proud to have the Simpson’s live in my adopted home state of Kentucky.)

For way too much speculation on where the Simpson’s live, go here: http://www.snpp.com/guides/springfield.list.html

What, my link wasn’t good enough for ya!

And if they did say Missouri, then they made a boo-boo. A quote from the episode “Lisa gets and A” thanks to the site that now has been linked to twice.

Super Nintendo Chalmers: “Good lord, what a dump. It’s not surprising this school was once classified THE most dilapidated in all of Missouri.
[Lisa and Skinner look at each other quizzically]
… that’s why it was shut down and moved here, brick by brick.”

So it can’t be in Missouri!

[sub]That’s it, they need to find more work for me to do here…[/sub]

But the very question is meaningless. The writers have thrown continuity issues like that out the window already, so saying that the Simpsons live in both Kentucky and Missouri is just as valid as saying Missouri and not Missouri.

No whooshing (except maybe me being whooshed.)

I thought that there had been some announcement that this was going to be the last season and I had somehow missed it. Thanks for clearing that up SterlingNorth!

There was also the line when Grandpa had a flag and Lisa said something like, “Grandpa, that flag only has 49 stars.” Grandpa then replies, “I’ll be deep in the cold, cold ground before I recognize Missouri!”

I don’t think there’s any way to pinpoint where The Simpsons are. There have been far too many things that would make you say “well they must not live there.”
