I agree, there is no continuity and Sprigfield is simply Springfield, U.S.A… It’s every town called Springfield and yet it’s none of them. But somewhere, down deep inside, I want to think that the writers have given us all the clues through the years and it really IS an actual place and they want us to figure it out. And I’m partial to the Missouri reference because my mom was actually born in Springfield, Missouri.
But to be perfectly honest, I just wanted to slip a “Super Nintendo Chalmers” in there.
But enough of the hijack.
As for the perfect season finale, I don’t care to think about it until after the movie comes out.
I heard through the rumor grapevine that the writers provide deliberately contradictory evidence about Springfield’s location… sometimes it’s near an ocean, sometimes it’s near a gorge, sometimes it’s in the middle of the country… etc.
My opinion? Springfield represents every mid-sized burg in the country, filled with the local celebrities, bumpkins, drunks, and all-around an odd assortment of folks that provide color to the place.
They are all against me… they all must die… Err, right, the only reason I’d watch the series finale is to make sure it’s over. The last two seasons have been a mockery of what was one the most brilliant show on TV. The only way they could possibly end it would be to kill everyone, which would still piss me off cause then it would be like a quick way out. I’ve been really disappointed with the Simpsons lately, they should’ve ended the season before last.
Indeed. In fact, in the “Edison Museum” episode that just aired on my local Fox station yesterday, when they’re driving down the highway, you see a sign that says, “Exit 57, New Jersey, Texas, and North Dakota.” Or something like that. A group of very non-contiguous states, anyway.
-Homer about to get killed in a accident at the plant.
-Marge about to be shot (she supposedly still has the handgun right?)
-Bart about to get sent up for vandalism
-Lisa gets captured by Canadians at the US National Spelling Bee in Ontario.
Set us right up for the movie where they’re all sitting at home saying “Boy, I never thought we’d get out of that!”
The Simpsons family, leading the entire population of Springfield, launch an attack on the nuclear power plant! They’re all charging, screaming, swinging their swords, mimes, and squishees… when, suddenly, Chief Wiggum pulls up with a couple dozen squad cars and intercepts the group! He then arrests the ringleaders - Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart, and Maggie - and then forces his hand into the camera, thus ending the series!!
It definitely is an Everytown. They can drive to both Las Vegas, Nevada and take the bus for what, six dollars each, to New York City. That’s the convenience of it all. And remember, they can’t live in Delaware, they visited there, didn’t they?
You’ve all missed the most obvious way to figure out what state they live in. The capital of their state is Capital City. Now just a moment while I get out my atlas…
