Sims 2 University Questions: Dorms and Cameras

Of all the Sims 2 expansion packs, University was the only one I didn’t pick up one of the Prima Guides for. As a result, there are two points relating to this pack that are probably quite simple but have nonetheless left me befuddled.

  1. When designing a university, how do you designate a building as a ‘dorm’ rather than just an ordinary rental house? Is there some feature that it has to have? I built a rather large housing unit only to have the game treat it as a very expensive apartment.

  2. How do you use the camera career reward? I’ve taken some pictures with it, but I’ve never been able to see the results, the only option I get is ‘Sell Picture’.

The only way to make a building into a dorm is to use a cheat code. Bring up the cheat window (ctrl-shift-C, for anyone reading who doesn’t know) and type in “changelotzoning dorm”. Once you save out of the lot after changing the zoning, you will not be able to use any of the build mode items that are disabled in dorms.

The camera, I can’t help with, I’m afraid.

For the camera, you have to be in Buy mode, and grab the picture out of the side of the camera, without of course grabbing the camera itself. It helps if you are in a very close-up view of the camera. Think of those old-fashioned cameras that use glass photographic plates.

Thanks, both of you. I’d been clicking all around the camera, but I never thought to get in close enough that I’d notice the photo sticking out :smack: .

Now I can complete the work on that university I wanted to build!
