Sims 3

There’s an inventory tab now? Is it based on a stack modus? Hash system? Tree?

I’m… not entirely sure what those mean, and google isn’t helping, sorry. The inventory tab has a big box with pictures of the objects within it. They’re stacks.

It’s the same inventory thingy from Sims 2, but with its own tab now.

Just a heads up, there’s now a mod to enable the Story Progression toggle at “More Awesome Than You.” It also “fixes” a few other things. Male sims will no longer spawn a motherless child. Cookbooks will no longer disappear after use.

The big drawback to modding this game, is that you can’t mix and match mods. Sims 3 simply isn’t as mod friendly as Sims 2.

Pescado cracks me up. It also cracks me up that one of the first mods they started on over there was the nocensor hack. Crazy MATY.

Semper Fidelis Tyrannosaurus!

Yes, and his violent hatred of being thanked cracks me up.

Also worth mentioning, EA posted a work around on the official board. Don’t know if it works (I don’t have the game yet).

Hi All - I’ve seen many conversations popping up about our game feature called Story Progression and the fact that the option to turn it off doesn’t work. We’ve been investigating this and have found that the toggle is not doing what it was intended to do. We are working to address this asap but in the meantime there is a workaround for PCs.

For PC:

  1. Find your game executable. It should be here: C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin
  2. Create a shortcut on your desktop to the TS3.exe.
  3. Right-Click on the shortcut and choose “Properties”
  4. In the top line “Target:” go to the end of the line and add this tag -disablestoryprogression
** You Simmers have been awesome and pointed out you need to make sure there is a space BEFORE the dash in your target line. Thanks guys!
  5. From this point on you will need to run your game from this shortcut and NOT through your launcher.

There isn’t a work around for Mac at this time.

I realize this is a certainly not ideal but it will address the issue while we are working on a real fix.

I also want to mention that there are a few events that can still occur even if story progression is completely off.

  • Any pre-made pregnant Sims will still have their babies.
  • If Aging is on, Sims will still die.
  • As YOUR Sims get new jobs, other Sims in the neighborhood may have their careers reassigned to become your boss or co-workers.

Thanks so much for your patience.

Good to know! Thanks for the info! These help patch over a pretty big problem in the game. I am quite pleased.

I bought the game and am pretty frustrated already. I can’t get the speed to raise above normal! Very annoying. I have no patience for watching my SIMs sleep!

Anybody seen anything that might help?

Anyone know if it runs on Vista 64 yet?

You can also put objects in the Sims inventory by dragging the object to the Sim (such as the guitar) and then releasing it. Now if only I could figure out how to get my Sim to stop playing the guitar in the bathroom. Every time I tell her to play it, no matter where she is in the house or where the guitar is stored, she takes it into the bathroom to play. Must have good acoustics in there, I guess!

I also get frustrated/bored waiting for my Sims to sleep/work. From what I gather from over at the Sims 3 community forums, this is a common problem, and your top available speed is greatly affected by the speed of your processor. This is because of the story progression – it has to simulate the whole neighborhood now rather than just your house like in previous games. My processor is a little older/slower, and while my graphics card mostly makes up for it in how the game looks/runs, my 2x fast forward is only a little quicker than regular time, and not much difference at all between 2x and 3x. Oh well, at least I can play.

One thing I do really like is the previously mentioned ability to customize the color/pattern/texture for most objects right in game (rather than with outside tools/downloading mods as for previous games). Very nice addition for adding some variety.

Either zoom in so close that you’re staring at grass, or zoom out to map view. If it doesn’t have to render sims moving, it goes a little faster.

Runs for me on Vista x64.

Anyone know how to reset the tutorial? I closed it JUST TO MAKE A TINY CHANGE (because I wasn’t allowed to get to the options screen while in the tutorial) and now I can’t get it back. I can just get the lessons.

I mean the beginning tutorial. The one that tells you how to play the game. My character is just stood there, and I want to be guided through the basics rather than have to figure it out from the lessons (which are in alphabetical order. Not very helpful for beginning)
I’ve tried starting again (having to go through the damn motions of creating the same character again) but no tutorial!!!

edit: I figured it out, it’s on the options menu from the main menu.

Turns out the tutorial isn’t very big. but you do get a free 500 simlonians out of it.

Question guys: My SO just spend an hour creating her Sim, but instead of putting it on the bin, she went back to the map. We wanted to create a pair of sims in the same household, but she is a household unto herself now. Is there any way I can take her out and send her back to the create a sim page so I can save her? Can I add my sim to her household somehow?

I don’t know about sending her back to the create a sim page, but you can move her in a house and move another sim in that house from the map.

Use CTRL+ALT+C to open the console window then enter edit in cas. If you don’t mind them starting out as roommates, the better option is to move in one and then the other as Elyanna suggested. The second one will bring §20K along.

Ah, ctrl-alt-C, the lifesaver of the Sims world.

And Elyanna, the inventory modi were a reference to Homestuck, the current incarnation of MS Paint Adventures. It’s an interactive webcomic that makes a lot of references to computer games, and the current story is borrowing from The Sims. It’s funny and surreal and slightly nightmarish at the same time.

Interesting. When I googled them, that comic did come up. I couldn’t figure it out. Thanks!

I linked these hex codes for various colors in the Seed thread and it’s useful here as well.
