So I was on imgur, posted some lady doing some yoga and apparently its considered mature? Since when was yoga considered mature?
Or is it only mature when a woman does it? I don’t know, something smells a little sexist about it. I bet you 100 dollars if a guy did the EXACT same thing then it would be fine.
“Mature content” means “not suitable for children”; you’ve never encountered that phrase? It’s in lots of videogames, movie ratings and so forth. Apparently the fleshbots at imgur do not understand that there is nothing about the word “mature” that means “inappropriate” when used by itself.
On the erotic thing, I guess some guys might find it erotic because of some of the body positions?
For me, exercise is exercise and I don’t find anything erotic there.
But, in the interests of honesty, if someone tells me they have a friend who does yoga, the chance of that friend being hot just drastically increased.
And I don’t think that’s sexist to think that; plenty of women would think the same of, say, “I have a friend who does calisthenics”
@nava I’m not american. I’ve heard “mature content” before but “mature” on its own seemed weird.
Even knowing the meaning it’s weird in this context. Is the suggestion that yoga is NSFW? Not something that children should be allowed to see? Strange
“Mature” is a value judgment, and values are rooted in culture. The internet is global, so web sites, apps, etc. have to make decisions about dealing with a plurality of cultures and value systems that influence millions and billions of people.
Christianity is still the dominant global ideology. Christendom isn’t as socially conservative as it has been, but it’s still the fundament of patriarchy, and therefore sexism. Muslim societies are generally very socially conservative. As an Abrahamic religion, Islam perpetuates patriarchy and sexism.
Patriarchy and sexism means there are double standards. Women’s bodies are policed, and that means no nudity. Nudity is culturally determined: it can mean women in tight clothes are forbidden; it can mean a woman’s face is forbidden; it can mean a woman’s uncovered hair is forbidden.
Imgur is a capitalist entity. Capitalism is almost completely immoral. It has and continues to employ slavery, prostitution, racism, genocide, murder, war, etc. in pursuit of profit. (This is a realist statement, not an argument for socialism.)
So, yes, it’s sexist. The vast majority of people alive now are sexist. Their ancestors were, and their descendants will be also.
I can definitely see it, though it would depend heavily on the exact picture.
I’ve definitely heard guys talk about how hot yoga pants are, or other form fitting clothing. And plenty of stretches can be suggestive, especially if the pic is angled a certain way. And, while it’s old hat now, I remember all the movies and TV shows with the trope of the guy wanting to get into the women’s yoga class.
Google image searching “yoga women,” I see a decent amount going for the “sexy” yoga poses (like the butt facing the camera and the woman turning to smile at it). The suggested additional words include “beautiful, hot, beach, attractive.” And that’s with safe search. Bing has the top result being “hot women in yoga pants,” along with several other references on the page. Images has far more sexy poses, with women in bras and cleavage, though the suggestions are all better.
In short, I do think that yoga is heavily associated with eroticism in our culture, and, depending on exactly what your photo looked like, it may have been mistaken for that sort of “poor man’s porn” post.
WAG: The AI bot software that rated the OP’s pics “mature” couldn’t tell the difference between a woman dressed in a yoga outfit and a woman (un)dressed indecently, or between a woman posed in yoga poses and a woman in the kind of poses women are photographed in in porn to show off their goodies.
Maybe once the OP finally gets out of gr. 11 he might grasp this whole maturity concept a little better. Not sure what ‘a guy doing the exact same thing then it would be fine’ is all about.
Interesting to know that calisthenics is the “yoga” equivalent for women.
It could of been a bot that marked it. Its kind of shame how yoga has been perverted so much. I wonder if a man that ever goes to a yoga class gets secretly judged and assumed to be a pervert?
