Story here. I know we shouldn’t diagnose someone online based on one incident, but I feel safe saying this fellow needs help in a serious way. He wasn’t some impulsive teenager (not that that would make it ok). I hope he gets real consequences. Sometimes people don’t see celebs as real, I think.
Guy had great aim though.
That’s exactly what I took away from it. “I was trying to hit her in the face because it would be funny” sounds like something someone playing a video game would say.
Some people don’t see anyone other than themselves as real.
Now let’s pause for a brief hijack:
I was at a “Leslie West’s Wild West Show” in MA at an outdoor venue in the early 70s. Near the front of the (standing) crowd, a rather attractive young lady was sitting up on her BF’s shoulders. Many people were yelling at her to get down. Out of the blue, a half-filled beer can came from about 50 feet away and hit her squarely on the back of her head. Beer was spinning out of the can along its entire path. She went down like a rock. I hope that she was OK, but I can guarantee you that every single person who saw it happen was thinking, “Wow! What an arm!”
Geez, I saw her in concert on this tour just a couple of weeks previously. Hope she’s ok.
Yes, or they just get so overwhelmed by being in the same room as the celeb that they feel the compulsion to interact with them in some way, even if that way is stupid, harmful and will piss everyone else off.
Years ago I saw Madonna onstage at a play (yeah, I know), and there was a small group who kept insisting on screaming “WOOOOO MADONNNAAAAA!!!” at regular intervals. They quieted down when the ushers threatened to throw them out but it’s the same impetus - “I must take this opportunity to make the celeb notice me, thus validating my existence”.
People are sad creatures.
