Siphoning Gas … How?

Once my partner put desel in our gas ambulance. It thankfully had two tanks and he only filled one with desel. So we filled the other with gas and went back to the station. Over about 20 minutes we tried to figure out how to pull this off when it hit me – blow it out.

so here is what we did…

  1. place a hose into the gas tank
  2. cut the finger out of a latex glove (its what we had) and slide it over the hose and opening to the gas tank to make an airtight seal
  3. cut another hole in a second finger of the glove
  4. blow compressed air into the second hole

This promptly began to pour desel out of the tank and into our gas can. Once it was as dry as we could make it we filled the truck back up with gas.

“umm use a gas can much safer.”

For 20 gallons? Nope.

Also, I think some of you guys forgot, but on the bottom of the gas tank is a bolt & you open that & the gas comes out the bottom of the tank.

so your suggesting lifting 20 gallons of gas in a garbage can setting it “higer than the car” correct? uuh if it were me i wouldn’t try this stunt. i mean safety first right? i would buy a siphon kit from an auto parts store (they do have 'em, i bought one last may when i took off my fuel tank) and a five gallon gas tank. oh BTW i dont know how common drain plugs are on fuel tanks but mine lacks one…
