Sirius Satellite Radio...Where are your Playlists?

I was givin a Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver for Xmas.
Now, I will need to purchase at least 1 “Docking Station” and pay subscription
rates if I want to complete this Process. I log’d onto the Sirius Website to check
the playlists. None, Zero…Zip…Nada. Even my dial-up Net radio station post
their Playlists and this is free.

Perhaps,Sirius beleives the hordes will subscribe without listening or viewing
playlists. I won’t subscribe until I know what Playlists are. At least allow
programming to be heard at the Website.

Why do you need a playlist?

Not many radio stations of any ilk post their playlists.

Don’t satellite stations list by genres?

You lost me. Exact playlists, song by song? Why would you want to choose a long-term subscription based on one week’s songs? From this page you can get a flavor of the kinds of stuff they play on each station, right down to the typical artists – what distinguishes “lite pop” from “easy listening pop” and all that.

Take the leap. I’m not a subscriber myself, but 100% of people I know who have tried Sirius or XM say they’ll pay that bill before they pay their mortgage.

Manny and I almost agree!!

The sky is gonna fall soon.

Count on it.

Shit, man, Sam Stone and elucidator were agreeing in the Indian Ocean tsunami thread. I’m fully expecting locusts on my commute tomorrow.

Beats the hell out of death of the first born.

At first I thought you wanted to find out what kind of stations Sirius had, and thought, “man, that’s a pretty glaring oversight for Sirius not to have on their site!”

Then I read the replies.

If that’s what you’re looking for (a song by song list for each station)… uh… why? Do you expect any AM or FM radio station website to have a playlist as well?

Weird.

Why not? All of my favorite stations post their exact playlists on the web for their listeners. Not that I actually agree with the OP-I just thought I’d point out that many of today’s stations are running playlists online at their websites these days.

Sam

Huh. Well, okay, I concede that there are radio stations (“real” ones) that do put their playlists up ('course, I listen to a radio station in the Detroit area that isn’t owned by Clear Channel. How that happened, I have no idea, but I treasure it ;)). But I don’t think that it’s common enough to pit Sirius for not having them on their website.

101.9?

I’d like to point out that if you have Dish Network, you get Sirius free. Or at least, I did once I moved, told them to upgrade my box, and got a new card. Still not in the apartment, so no reviews, but it’s all there.

I can’t link to it because they’re using flash, but right on the homepage in the lower right corner is a picture of a radio. Click on it and you can listen free for three days.

The only mistake I made when sigining up for Sirius was not going for lifetime plan.

I can make this simpler for you: they play EVERYTHING.

I love love love love my Sirius. The WryGuy has had it for about six months, and I got my own subscription for Christmas, along with home and car units. There are 65 music channels sorted by genre and it’s every genre I can think of and then some. If you don’t sign up, it’s really your loss.

101.1 WRIF *, owned by “Greater Boston Radio”.

Where else can I get my fixin’ of rock? Ahhh, Guns n’ Roses will always remind me of my high school job at a garage, doing oil changes.
Although I miss Z-rock horribly. :frowning:

Go to manhattan’s link. Choose one of the channels. Click on the listen icon in the upper right corner. A popup tells you that you can sign up for a free three day trial.

Hope this helps.

(I wish I got a Sirius receiver for Xmas :()

May I ask a question?

Why sign up for something you have too pay for??

Beats the hell out of me.

Just go buy an MP3 player.

Keep buying your CD’s and rip them to mp3’s. Along with the rest of your music library.

Then you can create your own playlist for free.

Look…
My listening needs are specific. I listen to a fantastic webradio station that
features over 220 stations.
Every Genre at this station features sub-genres.
Example: Alternative…Grunge
Sirius lists the genres but without the sub-genre or playlists its generic.

I have Dishnet Satellite TV but the Sirius Stations are not available on my plan.

Post the damn Playlist!

I’ll go over to XM and see what their Homepage reveals.

Lord. Half the fun is being surprised by the song that comes up.

I don’t think he’s looking for what songs will be next, but rather, what songs they’ve played in the recent past. It lets you get an idea about whether they play the top 20 hits in heavy rotation with an occasional older top 20 in there, or whether they play a big variety, including bands you’ve never heard of and lesser-known tracks by more common bands.

I checked out their channel list and the listed bands for each, but that still isn’t necessarily a good idea of the real variety on each station. If they’re playing the same songs every hour or two on my preferred channels, I’ll still get bored.

However, I do think the three-day trial should be sufficient to give an idea of what the variety is like.

Reeder,

Personally? If I did it your way I’d never hear anything new.

If I had access to the same catalog Sirius does, and the time to manage different genres of playlists to suit my mood, your method would work well for me. I don’t. So I pay Sirius $10/month to do it for me and pipe the results right into my car.

I think it’s worth every penny, others don’t – whatever.
