Did you get your picture taken with Santa this year?
Bah Humbug!!!
No, that’s Scrooge. Santa goes, “Psst. Kid. Your Mom’s hot. And you say your Dad’s not living with you anymore because he ran off with his friend Mike? Ho, ho, ho!”
I had the fun experience of having my FIRST photo taken with Santa this year!! After living almost 45 years on this earth, I thought it was about time and was giddy with anticipation.
My boyfriend, Hakuna Matata, and his 9-year old daughter and I went to have a family photos taken at the mall last month. It was fun and we were pleased with the results. Minnie-Matata and I decided we also wanted to have our pictures taken with Santa. It was his first Saturday at the mall, there was no waiting, and Jupiter was aligned with Mars as far as I could tell. What better time than NOW!!!
Pappa Matata was a little less than thrilled, but we relieved him from the pressures of being captured on film and the financial obligations. This was, afterall, “a girl thing”
So, Minnie-Matata and I got to the front of the holding pen and the young woman elf said, “Oh, you’re here to get your picture taken with Santa?!” Minnie said yes and I jumped in with an enthusiastic ME-TOO!!
Elf-Girl helped us over to Santa, a very authentic-looking and jovial kind of guy!! This guy could have been the real thing. . .it’s not bad to still believe, right??? So, Minnie sat on one of his knees and I rested my behind on the big arm of the chair on the other side. It was, afterall, early in the season and I didn’t want to stress Santa too much early on. I figured it was wise and considerate to preserve Santa’s ability to be mobile.
He, however, had other thoughts on the matter. After some initial joking and laughter, he looked at me and said. . .in a rather low and hushed tone. . .“You know, I have another knee”
Oh my!!! I could feel my temperature rise, but I still had some composure and thought I could continue my fun-but-cool appearance. So, I scooted around and sat on Santa’s other knee. Joking and laughter continued. He asked Minnie what she wanted for Christmas.
Slight highjack–What is it with kids saying what they want for Christmas?! It was some 9-word name for a computer game, all smushed together in one long indecipherable blob of language. WHAT??? That’s what Santa said, too
Anyway, back to the Santa story. . .
Santa turns his attention back to me. I said something about this being my first picture with Santa and he remarked, again in a somewhat suggestive tone, “Your first time?! Have you been naughty?”
  That did it!! I was completely caught off guard, left speechless, and turning a shade of firey red that I’ve not seen or felt in decades!! My ears were on FIRE!!!
OK Everyone. . .SMILE!!!
Great. . .one of my more memorable blushing moments is now captured on film!
I still had hope, though, that my coolness would somehow be preserved. . .but alas. . .
As I’m paying for the pictures and everyone is continuing to be jovial and festive, Minnie-Matata looks at the pictures and says (rather loudly), “Why is Elaine so RED!!!”
OK, so now the laughter has increased in both intensity and volume. I think people started laughing that didn’t even KNOW what was going on!
So, there’s my Picture with Santa story. It wasn’t quite what I was expecting, but it has made for a fun story at parties this season.
Happy Holidays Everyone!!
Heh, I looked just like the red head kid when I was little.
