Six Days in Hawaii - Where to stay

Howdy,

I’ve cashed in some air miles and am going to spend 6 days in Hawaii in February. I fly into and out of Honolulu. I’m traveling solo. I ask for the wisdom of Dopers to help me find a place to stay.

I live in Helena, Montana. One of my rules for going on vacation is to go to places that have fewer people than I live around (about 40,000).

A few years ago I went to St. John in the US Virgin Islands and stayed at a resort/place that was a 14x14 screened in porch (cabin). I was 30 feet above the beach and could see no neighbors, even though there were 75 places in the resort. No electricity, I could snorkel or kayak off the beach, they had three meals a day for two hours at each meal. You had to shuttle or drive about 1/2 hour to get anywhere else. It was perfect.

So, any suggestions for a similar place in Hawaii?

I want to sea kayak, snorkel, lay on the beach and read, drink beer and eat seafood. I’d rather be out in nature than be surrounded by 10,000 tourons. The fewer people the better.

Thanks,

Whistlepig

I have no insight on Hawaii, but I would love to know the name of the resort you stayed at on St. John. It sounds like an incredible place for a vacation…and I need a vacation! LOL

Maho Bay Camps

Well you will never find anything like that on Oahu. My suggestion if you want to “get away from it all” is to go to Molokai. It has only about 8000 residents.

Beaches were beautiful when I was there in the mid 80s. I see no reason they changed that much. There is actually quite alot you can do there. So if you are looking for fun and a little solitude check it out.
