Six Flags - Great America

What is the best time, between today and the day they close for the weekdays (Aug 26), to visit this place and not be stuck in line for 3 hours to go on one bloody ride (Deja Vu - Last year)?

As an aside, what rides are you afraid of there? I will go on anything, but my brother has to really psyche himself up to go on most anything. I’m curious how many people are actually afraid of rides and for what reason (heights, speed, safety?)

Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the best days to go, if you can’t get in on one of those company picnic things. THOSE are sweet.

I love roller coasters, but the fast spinning rides, like the little cars that spin around and the whole ride spins…ugh. I get a headache from them every time.

I know! We went to McDonald’s company day down there two years ago and it was amazing! I went on everything at least twice.

Actually, I went last last Sunday and lines were not overly ridiculous even at the busiest time in the afternoon. If its hot or humid, you can expect to see the water rides to have the longest lines. (Though when I went, I went on that tube deal one twice in a row within 10 minutes at about 3PM.)

Deja Vu, V2, Raging Bull, and Giant Drop (longest wait to “shortest”) will have the longest lines of any non-water rides. Deja Vu and V2, in addition to being the newest and most popular rides, are saddled with the fact that they’re constantly breaking down and run on only one train (as opposed to mutiple trains like a normal roller coaster). That said, V2 is amazingly fun and I’ve been told that Deja Vu is even better (this is very, very good if this is true). If it wasn’t breaking all day long the two times I went, I’d be able to give you a first hand account.

Obviously, the earlier you get there or the later you leave, the shorter the lines will be for anything. Within an hour or two of closing, you can go on some rides several times with next to no wait.

You might want to wait until Labor Day, if they’re open then.

It might be hard to plan, but the best days to be there are when the weather is not so good.

One year we went it rained (stormed) all morning and tons of people went home. By noon the sun came out, the workers dried off everything and we got to go on many rides twice & three times in a row because there were no lines.

Ditto what Ringo said.

We’ve gone the last four labor days and it has been a relative ghost town.

On the down side, most of the travelling carnival type rides are closed because much of the help has already gone back to school and they are shorthanded.

It’s usually not so warm that day, either, so all of the water rides are usually shut down, too.

However, if arriving at 10:00 a.m. and lapping the park and having been on everything you wanted to try at least once by 1:00 p.m. is your idea of a good time, Labor Day is for you. We even go to the shows, there’s so much time left at the end of the day. We rode Batman back to back to back without waiting. Walk off and walk back on.
