A generation of 'boarders is much more preferable than a generation of couch potatoes, IMHO
What he said.
If you need someone to blame, how’s about Tony Hawk for selling out like a mad man after his retirement? He does commercials for everything that’s offered to him, and has put his name on at least 5 skateboarding video games.
I thought “selling out” implied compromising one’s integrity to make money, and not just making money. How has Tony Hawk betrayed his past self? He has sold endorsements, but it’s not like he’s been skating like a drunken fratboy in public or slandering his fellow skaters with a drug charges. If he doesn’t mind attaching his name to a million products, I hardly see how that tarnishes his skateboarderosity. I’m curious; from your perspective, is Michael Jordan a sellout?
Good for him. But all of those video games he put his name on are quality games that have earned critical praise, so it’s not like he’s putting his name on any shlock that comes his way.
That’s not enough. They’re also damaging property with the things. link Somehow they just never make the connection that the chipped granite and ugly black wax streaks have anything to do with them. As a planetarium employee, I was instructed to call the cops on any kid who didn’t leave when asked.
20??? I remember it being popular when I was a little kid, which was many decades ago, back in the dark ages of the 60s.
At the risk of deing so firmly whooshed that the dead could hear, hockey is a sport. Remember a year or three ago, the Carolina Hurricanes were in the Stanley Cup Finals? That wasn’t a badminton tournament, y’know…
You are being whooshed. But that’s OK, the dead will have to get up soon for the election anyway.
What am I missing?
IMO, just that Lib is sarcastically stating that hockey is not a sport and is something that is on the level of being potty-trained. Or seriously. But I could be wrong.
When he was doing commercials for Nike and Gatorade, I didn’t think so since those products could be directly linked to his career. But Hanes and Ball Park hot dogs? How is that not selling out? It’s not like he needed the money.
And as for Tony Hawk, I considered him to have sold out when he did that commercial for those Pizza Bite things. You know, those little bagels with fake cheese and re-re-reprocessed meat that’s supposed to taste like pizza.
Did he need the money from Nike or Gatorade?
In all honesty, what Celebrities would have these directly related to their industry anyway? Jenna Jamison?
I suppose not. But at least you can draw a correllation to his profession.
Do Hanes and Ball Park franks really need a celebrity endorsement?
I’ve been noticing that people seem to be using a strange definition of “selling out” lately.
To me,“selling out” means betraying a previously held set of beliefs for money. Some people now seem to mean “doing anything at all for money besides what I think you should do.”
Basketball players pimping underwear doesn’t come close to “selling out” in my world.
I agree that skater culture is annoying, but in a big picture persepective it’s definitely better than playing games all day. It teaches them the value of work and commitment if they want to learn to do tricks, it teaches them to take a good fall, and of course it provides a relatively supportive peer group that it seems most people find necessary in order for kids to develop a proper mind.
Skateboarding has been around since the 60’s, it’s hardly a trend, it’s become
something almost every child does at one point in their life, like riding a bike.
Lib feel free to come back and explain what the hell you’re talking about.
Well down here in Texas, they’re expected to be able to field clean a deer by two. Sixth graders are commonly wildcatters in the oilfields on the weekends.
Chill out y’all, Lib was just playing the oneupsman game
I’d like to believe that, but I’m confused, because he’s been such an asshole lately.
