Sixxx Degrees (Six Degrees, but limited to real and fictional romantic entanglements)

I think this variant on Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon would be fun. Instead of any film connection, the ties are limited to those of a romantic or sexual nature, both in film/TV and from real life. No Kevin Bacon involvement is required.

This got started on this page of a name-the-actor game thread, in which I posted:

Just as it sounds. For “romantic entanglement,” I’d include virtually anything of a romantic bent, including flirting and making googly-eyes and cases of unrequited love, as well as the usual rolls in the hay and sweaty clinches. Instead of Six Degrees, we could call this game Sixxx Degrees.

For ex.: Sixxx-degrees connect Humphrey Bogart to Michael Caine [!]:

Bogart had Ingrid Bergman in Paris in Casablanca
Bergman was involved with Leslie Howard in Intermezzo
Howard was married to Merle Oberon in The Scarlet Pimpernel
Oberon was involved with Lawrence Olivier in Wuthering Heights
Olivier was involved with Michael Caine in Sleuth.

Et voila!

First challenge: connect Roger Moore to Stuart Whitman, in six. [Hint: think cult movies.]

:dubious: Does banging the same woman count? Because they certainly weren’t involved with each other…

No, the same woman in common would be two steps (three?) – we’re looking for six steps.

Especially when that woman/character is not actually played by anyone in the first place.

Would would work, however, is that Michael Caine was married to Maggie Smith (in California Suite), who in turn was paired up with Olivier in Othello.

Oops, confused Sleuth with Deathtrap. Both had Michael Caine playing deadly serious drawing room fun-'n-games against a male adversary.

Shall I reveal my Moore-to-Whitman series, or will someone take a crack at it?

That will probably be the only way anyone ever confuses Chris Reeve, may he rest in peace, with Sir Larry, may he rest in peace.

Well I for one haven’t the vaguest idea how to connect those guys, so I haven’t tried to participate. But I am curious how they connect. Just one vote though.

What if, as an additional clue, you were to identify somebody about halfway through the chain? Like #3 or #4. Unless that would be Paris Hilton or Mick Jagger. Then it’s basically no help.

Am I hallucinating or isn’t there a website (maybe it’s a book) with a title something like “Who’s Done Who?” that deals with these connections?

Somebody posted this link in another thread just the other day. Even if it doesn’t solve the immediate six degress problem, it’s worth a look for sheer outrageousness.

Six Degrees of Paris Hilton: The Global Reach of One Vagina.

I’m still trying to find a website with the lurid details, but I’m beginning to think what I’m remembering is a book or magazine that had “romantic” linkages between the rich, famous and indiscreet.

This link might be worth investigating http://www.whosdatedwho.com/celebrities/people/dating/howard-hughes.htm
