Skeptics: Have You Ever Seen Anything That Has Made You Question Your Skepticism?

Well, damn. I’m a skeptic, and don’t believe in psychic powers, because of inconvenient things like ‘facts’ and ‘evidence’. But I want them to be real, dammit! Of course this is entirely due to my desire to be able to levitate cars with my mind, but still.

I agree - many people see UFOs, but just because the objects are unknown to the observer does not mean they are alien aircraft flown by little green men…I, too, was very into UFOs as a kid, but grew out of it early in my undergrad time…I studied chemistry, but loved astronomy as well, so I took a couple of classes…it came up in a class and the prof took some time to reiterate the scale of space and the likelihood of us being found…yes, we started transmitting radio waves over 100 years ago and they would be over 100 light years away, but given the inverse square law, they would be indistinguishable from background noise a few light years out…

The one thing the prof did say, and I agreed with, is, if the little green men are far vastly superior to us in technology to a level we cannot comprehend, and are able to traverse large distances in space and pinpoint a destination…and if they had passed close enough to use to pick up those signals, they MAY have diverted to see where the noise came from…that’s a real reach, but the one that seems to make sense to me…and because of that really big reach, I’m pretty skeptical that we have been visited by aliens from space…

BUT, we have seen things we cannot explain…our family owns a beach house north of Duck, NC which is not too far from the Norfolk naval base…overflights by F-18’s are very common…one night, my wife and another couple sat up on the roof deck and watched an amazing group of lights dance in the sky to the north…for example, one would move slowly in one direction, then dart off in a 90 degree angle up to the sky with incredible speed and change of direction…we watched for about an hour…

Now, again, just because they were unidentified by us doesn’t mean we believed they were alien, and the fact they were near a military base means they were likely military…

And there is military video of an object the pilots cannot explain:

Does this make me less skeptical as to my belief that we have not been visited by aliens or otherworldly objects? Maybe a little, but I’m not running for the tin foil…
