Sketch 'n Spew anyone?

Calling all sketchers…

I’m dusting off my neglected artistic inclinations and gifting some sketches this Holiday Season. I’ve spent a solid 3-4 hours sketching over the past couple of weeks and am very much enjoying myself.

So to keep the motivation moving, I figured perhaps some of you might be interested in joining me in a group discussion while we all sketch the same photo, and then we can share our end products. A twist on the Illustration Friday approach. My uncle is a prolific IF poster and I’d like to someday participate, but I would honestly rather engage with my existing Dope community instead.

I have a hosting account and can host images for anyone who needs such things. I’ll probably just post mine up on my Flickr page as well.

This picture of Putin and Medvedev immediately caught my eye in the online news this morning as a great sketch project. If anyone is interested but wants to do something else, by all means post a link to an image and we can decide on the image once we have critical mass (i.e. at least one more person. ).

I’m up for whatever format or guidelines that consensus builds. I just want to Sketch and spew with y’all.

I can only draw at certain times, like when the good twin personality takes over, and I never know when that will happen so I can’t commit to something like this but I would be interested in seeing the results so I’m bumping the thread for you.
The title had me a little worried, I thought it was sketching things so horrible that they made you vomit.

I’m in the same boat with the lack of concious control of when I’m able to be the good little disciplined artist. I will put peer-pressure on you, if you’ll dish it out in return.

I’m in! I’ve been going to life drawing sessions every Saturday morning (one of the perks of having moved to a large city- my previous town didn’t have a session).

And hell, it’s not like I’m getting to do anything creative at work (grumble, grumble).

Sweet!

So how long do you think we should give ourselves? Since I’m still sketching my gifts, I’d like at least a few weeks into January personally.

What do y’all think of the Putin pic?

My preferred medium is charcoal, and that’s a great picture to do in charcoal (lots of shadows)… so, yeah, I think it’s a good choice.

As for a timeframe, I must admit I was thinking it’d be a lot faster… once I get off my lazy butt, I can’t see that taking more than a day or so.

Faster is fine. I may be going out of town this weekend, but should be able to at least devote Sunday evening to it, if I don’t finish it in the evenings after work this week.

How about we unveil on the morning of Monday the 17th?

This is finals week for me, but Monday should give me enough time. Of course, I won’t have access to the school’s scanners, so I will probably have to just take digital photos of my drawings and hope they don’t turn out too dark like they always do.

Over…whelming…desire…to…pro…crastinate…too…strong…

Sounds like a fun project, I’ll try to join in.

Did I say Monday morning as in this morning?

Um…yeah…

I don’t know about anyone else, but I haven’t even started, let alone finished. :o

I never found enough time after work last week, and spent the weekend on a firewood gathering/chainsawing/splitting/loading mission at my Mom’s that included a 10 hour round-trip drive.

If anyone else is ready to unveil, feel free. I’ll be bringing up the rear…

I thought you said sometime in January?

The photograph you posted is awesome.

For some reason that pic reminds me of this.

Sometime in January was my original thought, but Lightnin’ suggested a faster pace, so I went with the flow. I really like the pic too, and do look forward to putting some time in during my time off next week.

There really isn’t a need for structure or deadline I suppose, especially since I’ve already blown through the one I tried to set. Everyone can be free to reveal at their own pace.

Uh… oops. After finals, I moved from the dorms into an apartment and then celebrated by going on a weekend long bender.

But once I somehow acquire a desk, I’ll be hitting this with both guns blazing.
