Skip Estes - A white Christian Musician Minister from Texas converted to Islam!!! Why

The Wikipedia has an article on “Yusuf Estes” – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yusuf_Estes – for what that’s worth. There’s a warning right at the top: “The neutrality of this article is disputed.
Please see the relevant discussion on the talk page.” But the talk page (which gives Estes’ family background and a first-person narrative of his conversion) appears to have been written entirely by Estes himself, or copied from one of his sites; nobody else has contributed to it, and why and how the “neutrality is disputed” remains unclear.

Especially if “Europe” means “The European Union”, which has not only significant Muslim immigration, but may count Turkey among its members well before mid-century.

Oh well, I was hoping he’d come back.

Freeman, I read your website with interest however I’m still a little unclear on a few details. Perhaps you could explain your theory to me in your own words?

Also:

Which princes exactly?

Where were these slaves? In what capacity were you “enjoying their company”?

How did you make a million? How did you lose it? What is the relevance of your financial status to your religious belief? Is it not possible to be both a millionaire and a muslim?

Oh why am I bothering, he’s outta here already.

The neutrality is disputed probably because the main entry also appears to have been written by Mr. Estes. It’s certainly lauditory toward him, and includes, in the main body of the entry, links to his pro-Muslim sites.

Gotta go back a little before your time for the last one  :

Cheers Tam !

Yes, and we should care because?

Because we are Dopers. We have boundless intellectual curiosity. The bizarre and unusual fascinate us endlessly – and we know they sometimes imply something important, even if what is not always clear at first. Certainly this is not a symptom of growing Islamization of the American evangelical Christian community, but it’s still interesting.

Naturally.

I agree with you and wolfstu that the Atlantic is probably estimating the European Union and including Turkey (and possible other countries).
Also, this other thread (about the CIA assessing the EU) had these stats:

Based on these stats, it seems like 50% by 2050 is possible - albeit at the high-end of the estimate. Of course, the report is making an estimate of populations 20 years from now and they still have a range of 15%. I imagine the margin should be much wider for an estimation of populations 45 years from now.

lol, that’s the “Talk” page, which is basically anything submitted by anyone.

The real Wikipedia page is

and carries the warning:

You need a better cite than that. Wikipedia cites are iffy at best, because they can be so freely edited, so if Wikipedia says it isn’t neutral, then it is pretty well biased.

Note that I’m not saying it didn’t happen. White Christian Americans convert to Islam all the time. It isn’t a big deal, and I don’t see why this is such a vital topic for debate. If you’re shocked that there’s a White Muslim, then you live in a shell. They also convert to Buddhism, Daoism, or any number of things. Additionally, every so often a Muslim finds Jesus.

The only notable thing about this specific incident is how it is used as testament to get people to convert (while somehow managing to avoid mentioning any of the fundamental pillars of Islam or the theology that made Skip see the light and convert. Now if you come back with some of THAT, then maybe we can discuss it. Just posting around that this happened doesn’t mean much. It sounds like something that’ll be on Snopes in a week or two).

hehehehehehe

Obligatory Cthulhutract.

I think our Muslim visitor meant to say,
“Oh, I’ve been to Nice and the isles of Greece
while I’ve sipped champagne on a yacht
I’ve moved like Harlow in Monte Carlo and showed 'em what I’ve got
I’ve been undressed by kings
and I’ve seen some things that a woman ain’t supposed to see
I’ve been to paradise, but I’ve never been to me.”

Hey, you know what paradise is? It’s a lie.
A fantasy we create about people and places as we’d like them to be.
Damn you gobear, now it’s stuck in my head.

He took the sweet life, and never knew
He’d be bitter from the sweet

Anyway. I’d read before that Islam was the fastest growing world religion (in The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Understanding Islam, actually), so I went on a bit of a Google hunt. According to this article, Islam has 1.3 billion adherents, is growing at a rate of 2.9% per year, and has doubled its population since the 1970s. For comparison, Christianity has 2 billion adherents, and is growing at a rate of 2.3%. So the Christians are still adding more people per year (about 8.3 million, to be precise), but Islam is close, and getting closer. The article doesn’t state whether it’s using births, conversions, or both, but I don’t imagine that it’s using different statistics for Christians and Muslims - the numbers are too close for that. So the whole “Fastest Growing Religion” thing isn’t necessarily something to scoff at.

The rest of the OP, however…
