Has anyone ever taken guitar / music lessons over Skype? I’m looking for some guitar lessons online for a more advanced player. If you have I’m wondering what your experience has been, and if there is someone you could recommend.
Can’t answer your question about Skype but YouTube has some good videos.
Mr. Athena has taken many music lessons via Skype - both bagpipe and guitar. He has nothing but good things to say about the experience, and just told me that it seems like it’s the rule, not the exception, for good teachers to do Skype lessons nowadays.
You didn’t mention what type of guitar lessons you’re interested in, but for a good flatpicking teacher he mentions Russ Barenberg. There’s tons of teachers if you look around, and in our experience, most are open to you taking a couple lessons and seeing how it goes before you rush in and dump a bunch of money.
Moving thread from IMHO to Cafe Society.
From my experiences of playing and learning, usually on my own but occasionally through lessons or classes, I don’t see why it shouldn’t work very well.
Quasi?
Is that really you???
Where you been, Q-bro???

For online lessons, I strongly reccomend http://www.justinguitar.com/ Justin Guitar.
I’ve been around…not as much as before but I’m still here! Mostly a girlfriend has been in the equation for the past year, and that has really made my life busy(in a good way ;>) I still drop in from time to time. Glad to hear you’re still around and jazzin’ up the place!
Good to see ya back, mah brothah! Don’t be a strangler, okay?
ETA: “jazzin’ up the place”. Bet you thought I’d forgotten, huh?

Sure it can be done allright… I’m in Spain, I’ve taken classes with a brazilian guy who lives in England… Works fine.
