About a week ago I was out with a friend and her 12 year old daughter and her daughter’s friend. My friend and I overheard a small part of a conversation the girls were having, It went like this:
Girl 1 “Will you share with me ?”
Girl 2 " I don’t share."
My friend " J. That’s not nice, you should be sharing with your friends."
Girl 2 " Mom, sharing means using drugs."
My friend " What ?!? Then don’t ever share again. I’m going to have a talk with Girl 1’s mother later"
I have only been out of school for a little over 10 years, I guess words just don’t mean the same things anymore. But as a mom I want to know what other words and phrases I should be watching out for.

Okay. I ran your OP past Bonzo, who is a sophomore in high school. His first reaction was, “What, they’re sitting there talking about drugs with their moms sitting right there?” Then he pointed out, “Well, obviously, they were saying ‘sharing’ meaning ‘sharing drugs’, but just leaving out the word ‘drugs’ so their moms wouldn’t know what they were talking about.” He says nobody he knows uses just the word “sharing” to mean “sharing drugs”, although drug slang tends to be regional, so maybe they just don’t use it in Central Illinois.
The trouble with trying to get au courant with drug slang is that it can change so fast, and it varies by location. Also, dunno about you, but it always makes me feel like a cross between some earnest parent from the 1950s, desperately trying to get “hep” with the “young people”, and one of the Festrunk brothers (“Yes! No doubt you are wishing to be smoking some of that…‘mary jane’!”)
Anyway, there are tons of “drug slang dictionaries” out there.
