Slate.com gone -- any idea what happened?

I enjoy the online news/culture magazine slate.com. It worked fine this morning, lots of new content. However, as of this afternoon, when I go to slate.com it takes me to the washington post web site. (link to slate.com)

Google doesn’t yield any indication of what’s going on. Anyone else have a clue? Please tell me it’s just a glitch! Or sabotage by teabaggers, perhaps?

Just came up for me.

??You mean, if you click my link, you go to slate.com? Could it be that just my internet neighborhood is somehow corrupted??

I have never been to slate before, but I’m sure it doesn’t normally look like this. It is almost completely unformatted.

Bob

Formatting was strange in FireFox, normal in Chrome and IE8 and FireFox is now normal.

when I click on your link, it takes me straight to slate.com, without any gibbled formatting.

When I click on the link in the OP, I get forwarded to http://www.washingtonpost.com/

slate.com works for me, but you’re right, the formatting is all off. Maybe they are upgrading their servers or got hacked.

It looks like the style sheet is either messed up or missing to me.

Looks fine to me, no forwarding or weird formatting.

Looks totally messed up to me. And I go to this site regularly.

The are certainly having issues

Oddly enough for me, the original posters link

http://www.slate.com/ is forwarding me to the Washington Post

When I type http://slate.com it goes to the website (actually this forwards me to http://web.slate.com)

When I go to http://slate.com in K-Meleon which like Firefox is Mozilla, it is fine. But in IE the site is off.

So I would think a CSS stylesheet isn’t being read correctly by IE8

I am getting messed up formatting at Slate, in Firefox, IE8, Safari and Chrome. It looks to me as though the CSS is not loading at all. I have occasionally had similar experiences at other newspaper web sites, but usually then I can get it to format properly with a reload or two. My guess is that the CSS file is stored on a different server, or a different drive, to the HTML, and that the former is malfunctioning.

I’m having these problems, except that in Firefox the formatting is off.

Both links are working fine for me. Slate is owned by the Washington Post. My guess is you caught them in the midst of some sort of server maintenance.

I’m in firefox and it looks perfectly fine to me, clicking the OP’s link.

Yeah, whatever was the problem, seems to be fixed. I saw issues this morning, but none now.

Aha! So I’m not the only one.

Here’s what I’ve found:
– It happens on Firefox but not on Internet Explorer.
– I tried resetting the computer; that didn’t fix it.
– I tried removing Firefox and reinstalling it; that didn’t fix it.

Are you using Firefox too?
