I am a pretty bad sleeper. Probably not a full blown insomniac, but It takes me hours to get to sleep unless I am very tired.
I am currently on a night shift at work which finishes at about 8am I am tired now.
I have a boat to catch at 15:15, if you take into account travel, amd getting ready, I have about 3-4 hours in which to sleep.
The journey that starts at 15:15 will end at 21:15 (boat, and then 3 trains)
I can’t think of anything specific to ask, just looking for experience of making use of just 4 hours.
I haven’t any experience on the frighteningly few hours of sleep you’re getting-- my sympathies there. What I have read about, and has worked for me, is setting up a routine. Going to bed and getting up at the same time, even on days off (as much as possible, say within an hour of your normal times) really helped. Lessee, keep your room cool, dark, quiet. I set my a/c around 70, have black-out shades and wear earplugs. No tv within an hour or so of bedtime, and definitely not while in bed. Alcohol is a no-no, since it may make you sleepy at first, but then it messes up your sleep later in the night. All of this will hopefully maximize the sleep you get in the time you have available. And is there anything you can do about getting switched to another work schedule, eventually?
I probably should Add that this is a one-off. (getting the boat). But sleep is still problematic for me
Because of the nature of my job, and staff shortages I often switch between a day shift and a night shift (or vice versa - with a day off inbetween where possible)
See if you can get a Doctor to give you a presciption for Trazodone.
I use it for sleep, and it really helps.
It is not a narcotic, and non-habit forming. It’s original use was for depression, but is now used as a sleep-aide.
Might be worth trying.
