Sleep? What's that? Quizzing the MMP

Happy Moanday, everyone! My pain level is back to pre-walk-in-hell levels, so I’m relieved. (Ha.) I’m going to try again this afternoon. I’m wondering if it was going down the 18 stairs from my apartment that caused the pain. I’ll try taking them like a toddler this time and see if that helps.

@swampbear, any word on Partner?

VanGo, I’d be very upset if you weren’t around here. Depression is so effective at convincing us that the darker, more warped perspective is the true one, but take it from us: you’re a good person to have around, and your life is worth living… I think dog-walking is a great idea. I think being around people is a good thing. So are art and music and laughter. I hope your day includes all that stuff.

Moooom, I take it there were others in the waiting area who were interested in The 700 Club? I can’t stand listening to Fox News. I’ve asked people if they’d mind if I “just checked The Weather Channel for a minute” and then feigned deep absorption. Nobody ever asked to go back to Fox. If they had, I guess I would’ve said, “Oh, they’re just getting to the good part!” :slight_smile:

What a good strategy! I hope I can remember this the next time I’m stuck with waiting room ‘Fox News’.

@nelliebly, you’re a great life coach! :clap:t3::clap:t3::clap:t3:

The Weather channel is So much better.

talky {{{ hugs }}} I think you need one. I used to say that my kids could fight about anything. On one occasion, I think they were “discussing” whether playgrounds were some sort of patriarchal conspiracy. I said they could find a way to argue about the color of the sky. I asked them to tell me what color it was and… they started arguing. It is indeed what siblings do.

Waves at Butters!

@Drsunflower1 {{{ hugs }}} I think you also need one.

Nellie please be careful. I’m glad you’re feeling better today.

Take care everyone and Happy Monday!

It looked to me like everyone was bent over devices or just talking. I would guess one of the employees picked the channel. Luckily, I was only there an hour.

Trying to read, but I keep dozing. Gotta start thinking about supper. I think I want veggie soup.

  1. List item

I think it’s one of those {{Everyone}} days.

Maybe invest in one of these? TV-B-Gone - Wikipedia
*Looks innocent*

I have deadlines again; I think this is going to be a perpetual issue for the rest of this course. Two essays due Thursday I’m about 3/4 of the way in to one, and maybe 1/4 of the way through the other. I’ve done the purty graphs.

I did take a break(?) by helping one of the PhD students wrangle some calves for her experiment this afternoon. They’re really cute, but it’s such a depressing setup, and now I kinda smell of cow poo. Hopefully it’s just my coat- I’m going back again tomorrow, the usual people who help her are away or busy, so I can’t be bothered to wash it off, as I can’t see anything visible…

Looks like it. Hugs everyone {{{}}}

That made me laugh, thank you :blush:

This. Thank you! Seconded wholeheartedly.

Nut what’s going on with the calves? “Depressing setup” sounds ominous.

There’s a big pot o’ veggie-beef-barley soup simmering away - supper tonight and lunches for the rest of the week. It smells yum!!

Sounds yum too!

It’s not especialy ominous, just a standard commercial setup- in fact slightly better than most- but they’re removed from their mothers at birth, and spend the first few weeks in little hutches, with only a little space to move around, basically. It’s also pretty wet and miserable out there at the moment, which doesn’t help.

The experiment is testing a chemical to repel biting flies (at least I think it’s flies), aiming to improve cow welfare, so there’s no issue there, but I can’t help feeling sorry for the poor things.

Please skritch a cow-baby for me. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Afternoon all. Got my swimming in (400 yards) with Whirlpool and Sauna added in, about an hour’s worth of getting out and doing things. Got a bright blue bathing towel for swim days, tossed it into the dryer for 15 minutes after getting home and have the prettiest blue lint you’ve ever seen…I takes my excitement where I can find it these days.

Nut, Not ominous, but doesn’t sound like the best of situations for the calves. Or maybe I’m being too PETA’ed…

FCM, only place I go regularly that has a TV running while they work on me is my dentist, and they play HGTV, which is about as neutral (and boring) as you can get (IMHO). Still, I like nellie’s suggestion. Hope the soup tastes as good as it smells.

nellie, don’t push things. Take care (old busybody mode engaged).

OK, Pardon the Interruption is on shortly and then check my mailbox–such excitement!

All y’all take care.

It’s not- the commercial setups are awful, but you can’t do a realistic trial on an artificially nice setup, really. I’m already vegetarian, so’s the person running the trial… We were discussing just stealing all the calves last week, but the cleaners would probably notice.

At least we can skritch them, and hopefully they won’t get so bothered by bitey things.

It’s a particularly good batch! We each had 2 bowls, and there’s still tons left over for lunches. Very yum!!

It’s been raining since I returned from my trash run, but at least the temps are in the 40s, so no freezing. FCD has an appt with his surgeon on Weds - he’s had a lot of fluid around his knee these last couple of days. I’m glad he listened when I suggested maybe a medical professional might have an answer for him… :roll_eyes:

Drama on the extended family front - no one has been able to reach the daughter who was caring for the aunt who just died - apparently the phones are cut off. The nearest relative is 3 hours away and older to elderly. I suggested they have the police do a welfare check - here’s hoping it’s nothing bad or nefarious. I met the aunt 30-ish years ago or more, never met any of her kids or grandkids so they’re just names to me. I do recall she was a very sweet lady, and her kids sound like real pieces of work. Very sad situation.

Waiting for the soup to cool so I can put it in the fridge - I think I’ll wait in my recliner. :smiley:

The front porch decking and rails have been scrubbed in preparation for the painting on Wednesday. Did some pressure washing on the rear deck rails, but there’s more to be done tomorrow and we have to remove the herb boxes from the railing.

Sold about $350 worth of tools this morning to a guy who only came for a $30 bench. Score! Sorta; they cost a lot more than that. Another guy is coming in a few minutes to pick up some free cabinets. Hard to believe how much crap you accumulate in just one small garage over a decade.

{{{nellie}}} Glad that the pain has subsided. Take it a little easier. :slight_smile: Congrats on the new granddog!

{{{VanGo}}} Count me as another proponent of dogwalking. When I lived where I couldn’t have pets, I volunteered at the local shelter (it’s a regional one that handles puppy mills, hoarder situations and disaster evacs as well as the usual critters). I got as much or more out of it than the puppers did. They still give me a ring occasionally when they need extra hands on deck.

So you walked pi flyboy? :stuck_out_tongue:

They’re just now getting around to your Takata recall Mooooooom? It only took 2 weeks from the notice until replacement on my old Toyota (you know, the one that was totaled in 2018).

I wouldn’t mind one of those TV B Gone gizmos for the TV perpetually tuned to Fox News in the breakroom at irk nut. :smiley:

We were sent home from irk at 10 this morning and don’t have to return until 7 tomorrow (we usually start at 0430) for lack of irk. Glad I have some irons in the fire. I used my day to put the interview questions together for the couple wanting me to make their wedding album. The wedding is in May and one of the photogs that I work through linked them my portfolio. I’m excited, given that the pandemic has pretty much halted that part of my side hustle for the last two years. I usually do an interview of the couple to get a feel for their personalities and style. This is only the second one in two years (I usually do 4-6 a year and there’s good money in it for a side gig).

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Howdy Y’all! Been a cold and rainy day here, so a good day to be inside. The chikin ‘n dumplin’s and peas ‘n carrots we had for sup were just the thing to warm up our insides on a day like this. We’ve been gettin’ some estimates on some repair work around da cave. Re-screenin’ the back porch, tearin’ down and re-buildin’ the ramps to two storage buildin’s, replacin’ the doors on the back porch that lead to the yahd and deck, and paintin’ all the wood trim around the windows, doors, and garage to be exact. We’ve finally decided on someone to do it all and it should begin sometime next week. So, much excitatement about to take place!

Partner is home from the horsepistol. Seems the stomach virus he had played the major role in his takin’ a fall which led to the dislocated shoulder. Gettin’ fluids has put things to right so it seems.

I read all but am unable to retain much, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around, as needed.

:clap:t3::clap:t3::partying_face::confetti_ball::tada: glad to hear about partner being home and relatively unscathed.
