Sleeping Bag Storage ?

Just bought a good bag. Used it for the first time this week for a backpacking visit to Mt. Langley which, BTW, was a bear. Anyway, I have a stuff sack that came with the bag, a compression sack which I used on the trip and a much larger mesh bag in which the bag came in.

All that said, I’m certainly not going to store the bag in either the compression or stuff sacks. Is it OK to sore it in the larger mesh bag or is it best to hang it?

Thanks.

hanging will let things settle with gravity. rolled or folded uncompressed on a shelf is good.

I have a nice, down sleeping bag that I don’t like to store “crushed up”, so I store it an empty suitcase to keep it out of the way. Of course, I have to eject it when I’m traveling, but that’s OK, because I’m not home when I’m traveling.

The bigger mesh bag is OK. But it’s a good idea to just let it hang or lay it out flat.

I’ve found that the under-the-bed Rubbermaid containers are ideal for sleeping bag storage.

If you don’t have pets, just store it under the bed fully laid out. The dust bunnies deserve some comfort once in a while.

Also, if you have a therm-a-rest (or similar self inflating pad) store it in its unrolled state (so the foam is uncompressed)

I’ve heard the same thing about tent poles (unfold them so the elastic is the least stretched out as possible)

We kept ours laid out on the spare bed.
