This has been a goal of mine for a long time. I want to sleep 24 hours straight without the aid of drugs, and this includes alcohol. Many people, in fact most people, have told me that it’s impossible, but I come to you for the final verdict. Can this be done?
My guess is that you’d naturally wake up before the 24 hour period passed, without the aid of drugs. I suppose if you stayed up for a long period of time before, then you could come close, but I think you’d still wake up after 15 or so hours. I can’t imagine being able to sleep for the entire period without the aid of sleeping pills or other drugs, though.
I’ve done it on a few occaisions. It’s not impossible.
But then again I do have a sleep disorder. Every now and again I try to give myself time to catch up on sleep during the weekend, and on days like that I’ll ususally get in around 15 -20 hours in one stretch. Then its back to dragging myself out of bed after only ::ugh!:: 9 or 10 hours of sleep.
I’ve had many friends though, especially in high school who could pull this off on the weekends, especially if they’ve been sick or stressed out.
I’m curious as to why you think it’s that odd? What’s the longest amount of time you’ve slept? Why do you want to do this? Do you feel you need to sleep more, or just want to see if it can be done?
It most certainly can be done. I have done it a few times. It really helps to be a teenager or a college student though.
I did it once when I came home straight after college finals for Christmas break. This was after a few weeks of little sleep.
I did it another time in college after staying up for 3 days straight to prepare for finals.
My stepbrother slept for 28 hours once when he was 17 for no particular reason. His mother made him go to the doctor but the doctor didn’t find anything wrong and said that teenagers just go through growth spurts sometimes and need a really extended sleep.
I don’t really have a strategy for you other than to exhaust yourself silly. I can sleep for absurb lengths of time pretty much at will but most people can’t.
I sort of did it in my teenaged years. Went skiing on a friday and saturday, got home saturday night, ate pizza, crashed, woke up monday morning. I kinda remember waking up sometime in between because of some noise outside my room but i promptly went back to sleep again. I was real hungry when I woke up tho and stiff.
I’ve done about 18 hours maybe 20, but I could never top that. It just intrigues me to be able to sleep 24 hours, a full day. It’s like a poor man’s time machine. You go to sleep, wake up and have a full day to catch up on. Anything could have happened in that 24 hour period.
What, the rich are traveling through time now?!? Did I fall asleep and miss something?

They have been for years man. Bill Gates has a summer house in 2037.
I’ve slept 22 hours straight. Without the aid of drugs, medication, alcohol, etc. I do not have any sleep disorders. So, yes, it can be done.
It was exam time then. I was awake for 48 hours or more prior to the 22 hours stretch. So I guess you’d have to be sleep deprived or extremely exhausted to achieve a 24 hour sleep. If it matters, I did not wake up for water or toilet breaks. So my record now is 22 hours straight. I doubt I’ll touch 24 hours any time soon. I can do 16 hours with ease though.
I don’t know how to go about doing this but if you had a bad case of depression you could sleep 24 hours.
Depression makes you unable to sleep or to sleep way too much! I had the way too much variety.
Not sure how to obtain clinical depression on demand. Most folks don’t want it and did not ask for such an awful illness. But if you got it bad you can sleep an entire day and wish you never woke up at all.
Or you could have someone rain blows on your head until you are comatose. You could hit 24 hours without breaking a sweat.
No drugs or alcohol, in fact the only reason i’m here is because i searched whether this is normal or not. I went to bed at 11:00 am Friday and now here I am at 12: 00 am (midnight) Sunday. And honestly, I still feel tired, like that weird behind the eyes tired. You know what I mean?
Anyways, I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary either, just went to the gym, did like 12 sets and went home.
It may have been 15 years, but I’m sure you’ve asked this question at least two times since this OP.
When serving in the army, I saw people sleeping for days after returning from a two-week military exercise during which they never had the opportunity to sleep properly. Well, they didn’t actually sleep for days but it felt that way because some of them really slept day and night for at least 24 hours. Who knows whether or not anyone woke up during those mammoth sleep streaks.
