Please, please, get your S.O. to see a sleep specialist ASAP. The snoring might be nothing; if so, GREAT. It may be noisy, but at least it’s not threatening his long-term health (provided you don’t escalate your snore-stopping tactics). If he does have sleep apnea, getting treatment now will enrich both your lives tremendously.
My Dad has suffered with sleep apnea for years and (1) his only treatment option is surgery (his condition is too advanced for non-surgical treatments) and (2) he’s now so old (80) that surgery is no longer an option. The result: he doesn’t really sleep at night (snores for a while, his airway shuts, his body doesn’t get enough oxygen, he wakes up for a nanosecond, then back to snoring, airway shuts…). So, whenever he sits down during the day (yes, sometimes even in the car) he falls asleep. He’s tired all the time and cranky as a result. Of course, this meant that when I was a kid he never really felt like going and doing things. (Hey! Where’s Collounsbury to make me some cheese for this whine?)
Seriously, get this checked out.
Good news! Snory McSnorenson has agreed to not only go to his doctor, but also to start watching what he eats!! YAYAY! The “bubbles of my beer” (that one’s for you Olentzero) also feels it’s a real problem if I can’t sleep in the same bed as him, so he wants to take steps to fix (or at least improve) the problem!
