Inspired by this thread, I am bravely embarking into the strange and wonderful world of sleep deprivation. I have now been awake for 27 hours. I have recently hit my second wind and I am totally alert, since this is the time of day that I would normally be awake. Earlier, I was quite drowsy, but I’ve become more skilled at fending off sleep. TV is a killer, as are couches. I will try to sit only on wooden chairs until my experiment comes to an end. Stay tuned to this thread for updates on my current state of mind. With any luck, you should get to see my sanity gradually degrade.
Actually, so far this has turned out to be a largely beneficial experiment. I am able to be much more productive with all 24 hours at my disposal. This morning, several hours into what would normally be my sleeping time, I did lots and lots of ab exercises and pushups. Now, I’m feeling the delayed onset muscle soreness. The most difficult challenge of this experiment so far is keeping constantly occupied.
I have been unassisted by any chemical substances except for some coffee ice cream and one cup of Mountain Dew. So far, I have found that a good solid meal is the best way to become alert again.
However, I have only but entered the first leg of my journey. Updates coming soon.
Heh, don’t worry. I’m a big loser. I’m 19 years old and don’t know how to drive.
Well, it’s about the 32 hour mark. The second wave of sleepiness is just starting to set in. I’ll give another update at about 36 or 40 hours, depending on how things go.
I’m about a half hour shy of 40 hours, and I have noticed a little wierdness with my peripheral vision, but it could just as easily be me looking for wierdness where there isn’t any. Tell you the truth, I feel quite normal right now, almost as alert as ever, but inwardly knowing and feeling that if I curled up in bed right now, I would be out in about 5 seconds. Surprisingly, today I’ve been able to lounge around in bed and watch TV without any fear of falling asleep because I’m that alert. As long as I kept my head up, I was fine. I think I feel another sleepiness wave coming on now though, so I’ll have to be careful.
You know what. Screw this. I think I’m just going to go to sleep. If I want to mess my mind up, I can always just drop acid. At least that only takes an hour and a half to kick in, not two or three days.
I’m a little disappointed. I was hoping your last post would read something like this …
“Its nowbeen 63 houstsrs sincec iI lassstt sleepted. I thiinkk it is its poosble that this sstype off experiiimmment is nnot reeeckomcocmmcomentded foootr peop;e shooowwwho whppkk]aaaaaaaf ff8asd jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj”
Are you going to try to duplicate all the other “what’s the longest stint …” threads?
