slight nausea upon waking

It seems that just about every morning I’ve been waking up with a feeling of nausea. I have absolutely no desire for food, despite this condition being relieved upon eating. I normally eat grapes, bread, or rice because they seem to be digested with greater ease.

My question: why is this happening?

I think you might be pregnant.

I hope not, I’m 17…

Not to mention, male.

I get that when I’m wicked stressed-it’s part of the whole dreading going to work thing. Is there anything particularly stressful going on in your life?

Hmm, sort of. It’s personal, so I will not mention it. I have recently been taking 5-HTP to help control depression, and it seems to be working. One of the ‘benefits’ of 5-HTP is supposedly reduced appetite, but I have not noticed it, unless it’s manifesting itself through morning nausea.

I am supposed to be taking prozac and paxil, but I personally do not enjoy the side effects of either.

Anyway, I have experienced episodes of stress/depression before and have not noticed anything similar to this.

Questions of side effects aside, sometimes low blood sugar in the morning will make you feel queasy, especially if you didn’t have a good solid dinner the night before. Happens to me and about half my family all the time. It helps if you get up and move around, maybe drink some coffee or tea with milk and sugar in it. If you just lie there in bed, it only gets worse, until you feel so sick you can’t eat. And then you get the “hunger headache”…

Also, eating a good balanced supper helps. Not pizza and chips (Mom said to the teenager).

Might also be slight dehydration.

Face it, though. You’re pregnant. Prepare to be in next week’s Weekly World News.

do you have an overactive conscience? i myself feel sick when faced with a moral dilemma. but most likely, your depression is the cause. i would go back on the prozac, it should mellow you down.

Put me down as agreeing with lortar, at least the dehydration part ;). Perhaps the medication is a diuretic. I described a similar problem to a doctor friend and his advice was to drink an extra few glasses of water during the day and one before bed.

I wouldn’t try anything else without talking to the doctor that prescribed the medication you’re taking, but a little extra water couldn’t hurt, and may just help.

Woops, sorry slortar, your “s” got cut off in the topic review.

Since about the time I was in junior high, I have been slightly nauseous upon waking, every single day. I have absolutely zero interest in this meal called “breakfast.” Don’t get me wrong; I love pancakes, waffles, hot cereal, cold cereal, toast, donuts, bagels and cream cheese . . . just not in the morning.

For me, it’s worse the earlier I get up, so I don’t think it’s easily correlated with dehydration or blood sugar. I just always thought of it as my stomach not being awake yet, and resenting being jostled around as I go about my morning routine. Tres scientifique, no?

And, as soon as I saw the title of the thread, I knew that somene would have responded, “Maybe you’re pregnant,” because anytime I have ever mentioned this to anyone, some wit has to suggest it.

hmm…
do you take iron supplements? that can cause nausea.

after having morning nausea for almost 2 years i linked it back to my multivits. now i take about 4 different pills instead of one…just to make sure i don’t take iron.

try keeping some ginger biscuits beside the bed, those work as an anti-emetic and should raise your blood sugar as well.

Well, my fix for that was just to sleep until noon.

Every day.

I love the midshift.

My husband wakes up nauseous every day. We think he’s catabolic from lack of food (he burns fuel really fast). He eats a Balance Bar first thing, then feels ok.

I am pregnant, so I am feeling pukey all the time. Crackers, a little milk, some toast- all may help. Eat something beofre you get out of bed, if you can.

Can you eat something right before you go to sleep? I know it’s fattening, but it can help stave off the morning nausea.

I’m thinking **Book Deal!!!
