Slight Pause In Windows Media Player

I recently installed the latest firmware for a Netgear DG834G modem/router, and it seems ever since then the connection intermittently drops out for less than a second at varying intervals.

This is fine for surfing, but when I am listening to music (WMP10), it pauses the music at the same time as the drop in connection. This is extremely annoying.

Besides re-installing the previous firmware, is there anything I can do to maybe solve this problem?

Any help appreciated.

With apologies; I just noticed this.

I think maybe more RAM. I have the same problem (different brand modem), and that’s what I’m contemplating. I already have 512 MB and a decent speed processor (AMD 2.8 GHz), but ya gotta remember that all MS programs are memory hogs.

I’ve noticed that the DSL modem also affects response time on other computer activities (frex, selecting a bookmark - which is infuriating; OTOH, I have a humongous bookmark file). But I really like some of the newest features in WMP 10, and I ain’t goin’ back to dialup without a fight.

Are you talking about music that you’re streaming over the Internet or music you already have on your hard drive?

I’m talking about CDs in the drive mostly, but sometimes with music on the HD. The OP may have been talking about streaming. I don’t do that too much; DSL lite isn’t really fast enough for music streaming, 'cos I hate the way it will drop out FTTT. And yes, I know that some people will (try to) listen to music on dialup. I’ll listen to downloaded clips, but not usually full music tracks. But the OP may have a faster connection than I have.

I forgot about this thread after getting no replies for a few days, thanks anyway to those who eventually did.

I have since done a complete reboot of computer and the router and the problem seems to have ceased, but I’m thinking it may have been an ISP issue because I tried rebooting earlier.

It wasn’t RAM either as I have 1gb of the stuff and wasn’t running anything differently than before (apart from the firmware upgrade).

Reply, as far as the actual music goes, it is on my hard-drive so it wouldn’t be a connection lag issue. Sorry if I wasn’t clear in my OP.

Thanks again to those that replied.
