SLK update.

Well, I’ve got two days subbing under my belt. A half day in the sixth grade was my reintroduction. The kids were pretty good, I’ve definately had worse. The book I got to read to them was interesting enough I want to pick it up myself ‘Tales of Despereaux’? Contains T.S. Elliot allusions. I told the kids to mention them for brownie points. The H.S. kids want me to come back. I told them to tell their teacher to request me. But I don’t know how long I’ll be doing this, really. Just till I land a solid office gig.

Yesterday was H.S. English. I don’t even know the year. Sophomores, maybe. We were doing ‘To Kill a Mockingbird.’ One of my favorites. Good thing, too. I forgot to bring a book, and this teacher had a prep right next to lunch so I had nearly two empty hours. (Pity the nicotine addicted teachers, having to sneak off campus like heroin addicts for a fix…) At least I had the time for it.

Today I have a kindergarten class, half day, then a small intimate birthday picnic with my daughter and her mom. Should be fun and relaxing.
A couple of things about California drive me nuts though. I’m spoiled, I learned to drive in Phoenix, which has a pretty reliable NSEW grid system. Here, my compass is between useless and misleading. Nothing is orthagonal, topographical maps would help me more than anything. I should get some.

And because of that, there’s so much stuff that, if you’ve never been there before, you’ll never find it. As a newbie with a very limited social circle, this is a serious handicap. Mapquest should come with serious disclaimers in this area. Also, buildings will change the side of the road they are on overnight. Swear to Og they do…

I went to a SCA fighter practice, it was two people. Another area where I’m spoiled. Phoenix is very SCA dense. Atenveldt fighter practice is like an event anywhere else, I’m finding. SCA here is more… sparse.

OK. Hope I didn’t sound too whiney. I do like that I can go out my front door and smile at what I see.

Good luck to you mate the Doper family are all rooting for you.

Thank you. I had kindergartners friday, and High School Boy’s Physical Education this morning. I prefer the High Schoolers. They’re too big to pick up and throw.

Farewell, My Lovelies.

Ahhhh, me. Today I sold off Vinyl, books, DVDs and CDs for a pittance to keep myself in ramen. I’m subbing, but the district that’s giving the most work has a month long pay cycle with a two week offset. I started near the beginning of a cycle, which means the work I’m doing now I won’t get paid for until May 30th. My credtors don’t want to hear it.

I called ahead it was only SF they wanted to buy, they took all the good stuff, Gibson, Sterling, Stephenson etc. I sold more of the Vinyl than I thought I would, they took all the DVDs I culled, and 80% of the CDs. $81.50 for the lot. Eris and me wept, but I took it.

The Dept. of Justice cashed my check, so I should be getting paperwork on my handguns soon.

Then I can sell those.
