So slot machines commonly have combinations that pay less than what the player put in for that spin, right? Would it be possible to design a machine that won something on EVERY spin, even if it was much less than what the player put in for that spin and still have the margins the casinos want? I assume not, because I figure someone would’ve done it by now if it were possible (“win on every spin!” would be a nifty come-on), but what do I know?
The majority of machines I have seen have the lowest payout (e.g. cherry in the first position) exactly equal to the bet. I can’t recall if here in NV I have seen what you say but I suppose it’s possible. The state is very strict on their gambling rules, and there is much scrutiny on not having machines cheat you.
The only time I can recall games where you’re winning less than your bet is on multiline machines when you win a minimum of lines. So if you’re betting 1 cent, but playing 20 lines, you’re spending 20 cents per spin. And if you hit only one line that pays x5. you’re out 15 cents.
Is your idea theoretically possible? Why not? Legally? Probably not. But depends on local law.
Also, some games have a bonus round where you’re guaranteed winning something, such as the Wheel of Fortune games. But you’re not guaranteed actually getting to the bonus, and have to bet max.
