I’m currently in an unpleasant conversation with a seller on E-bay. I bought a glass lamp for 190 dollars. The seller wants to ship it through UPS, which will make shipping at least 120 dollars. Even if they don’t charge anyhing for the handling themselves (which would have been fine with me). I have had my eye on such a lamp for a long time, and I recall other sellers of almost identical lamps, that had sales estimates of around 60 dollars, which seems more reasonable to me. And yes, I know I should have cleared shipping costs beforehand with this seller, but unfortunately, I didn’t.
So, does anyone know of a (slow) cheap shipping company, other then UPS, that will ship a package from Florida to the Netherlands? The package will be about 15 pounds, a square cardboard box of 30 inches, by 20 by 20 inches.
I told the seller that I’m willing to do whatever makes it easier. I have no problem waiting several months for my lamp. I’m willing to give positive feedback before I received the lamp. etc.
Checking out that table made me realise an mistake: it’s 15 kilo’s, so, 30 pounds. So the seller is right that UPS costs indeed that much. But is there any cheaper company then UPS?
Here’s your USPS total (not UPS) for the 33lb weight and dimensions you gave.
Priority Mail® International 6 - 10 Days $125.60 at PO $119.32 if paid online
There is no less expensive method for what you are shipping. It’s a big box that weighs 33 lbs that’s going half way around the planet. $ 120.00 is not a bad deal.
In my auctions I always tell international bidders to email me before bidding. I sold a paid of Sorel extreme weather kids boots the other day to a woman in Siberia. The boots were 30.00 (they retailed @ 100) and the shipping was $ 53.00. She paid it gladly to get the product.
Owning a freight forwarding business, I can tell you that astro is correct. Shipments of that (small) size, do not offer any opportunity for negotiation with any carrier.
