I like pillows. I LOVE pillows. I love nice, firm, comfy pillows.

I have lots of pillows on my bed. Unfortunately none of these are nice, firm, comfy ones. Most of the ones I see in the local shops are those hideous polywossname-filled ones which soon flatten out and lose their shape. I have prodded feather pillows a few times in the shops but I am doubtful that they would be resist the urge to flatten themselves out. I have heard rumours of pillows stuffed with other materials but I can’t figure out what that would be. Any ideas? And more importantly, where can I buy some?

PS, I have toyed with the placing of this thread. In my head it belongs to GQ but I get the feeling it might veer towards IMHO. If it does then Mods please accept my apologies and do your worst!

I’ve been very happy with a Tempur-Pedic (memory foam) contour pillow. No more cricked neck in the morning.

There are Temperpedic pillows, or memory foam pillows, that mold to your shape but are pretty solid. I can’t say how long they keep their integrity though.

Tempur-Pedic mattresses are guaranteed for 20 years. Don’t know about the pillows, though.

I absolutely love goose down pillows (not feathers… down). Since you like a firm pillow you’d want one that is stuffed very full. They will cost a great deal of money. I use to work for a company that made them, and other down products. I hated that job, but sometimes I think about going back just to get the discount.

They are firm yet soft, warm yet cool. They are something like those squishy yet sturdy stuffed animals that are for sale these days. You know the ones, you just can’t stop squeezing them.

You must have down pillows! Ask for them for Christmas. Make sure to stress that you need a firm goose down pillow (not feathers and not duck down either). They will be very expensive! Have I said that yet?

I swear that I have not worked for that company for over 15 years now.

Organic Buckwheat pillows

Pillow filled with chips of cypress

Thankyou for the responses y’all.

I think I’m too wriggly for the Tempurpedic stuff. The cypress ones look interesting though i’m not sure how comfortable they’d be. I bet it would be a lovely smell though.

**Indecisive1 ** I think you should definitely go back to work there but perhaps in sales - going on your post I’d say you could sell sand in the desert.

I shall investigate buckwheat!

Opinions.

Soft, fluffy opinions.

Everyone has one.

Let’s see if we can get more opinions for youin IMHO.

I ordered a couple of these for the boy that I have the hots for in LA - when I visited I slept on them and can confirm that they are fan-fucking-tastic.

Fluffy and firm and lovely. They’re down filled, and seem to retain their firmness well.

I don’t know if they’ll ship to the UK tho…

I’ve slept on Latex Foam Pillows since childhood. They retain their shape and firmness no matter how much tossing and turning you do. I’ve looked into the memory foam pillows but they seem hot and I don’t think I’d like the “memory” aspect.

I have one of those that Tony Little advertises on TV. I can’t remember the name. I think it is very comfortable.

I have a feather pillow that has been mine since I was approximately two years old. That would make it 38 years old now. It looses feathers now and then, but it’s my favorite. I also have a stupid Target pillow which is losing it’s firmness - time for a new one. But I’ll never give up my feather pillow - that’s the one that goes on the top of the pile!

I used to be a feather pillow devotee, then I tried a down-alternative pillow. Oooh. It’s really good. Especially if you take the time to plump it up every day.

Here we go, it is the HOMEDICS Micropedic Therapy Pillow

I’ve actual been quite pleased with cheap pillows. The temperpedic ones might be the right hardness/softness, but the thickness is set so you can’t fluff it thicker, or try a couple to see which feels best under your head.

Cheap pillows are “bad” because they’re hard, and expensive because they are soft. But all that means is that the expensive pillows flatten out and leave your head right on the mattress. And really, the “hard” cheap pillows, so long as you actually give it some test squishing in the store, really won’t be any harder than exactly what you want.

King Tut’s Pillow

Heh! OK, so I did work for their ad agency for awhile too. But I got the discount and a free down comforter when I worked for the down product company taking sales phone-in orders.

I am serious about the down pillows, though. You can save some money by getting a down and feather blend, but I just don’t like them as much. Or you might try a foam pillow that has a layer of down around it.

I’ve heard good things about the buckwheat pillows too, but I’ve never tried one.

Oddly enough I’ve experienced the opposite. The cheap ones tend to flatten out and cannot be fluffed up again.

You have nothing to fear from a good down or feather pillow.
