After a couple of days of looking at Slug Signorino’s drawing of worms escaping a hapless surgery recovery, I discovered that he snuck his signature in with the worms (Well, a worm creates the “S” and the rest of the letters in Signorino are squiggles)! Cool.
Welcome to the SDMB, and thank you for posting your comment. It’s always a pleasure to see a new poster at the SDMB! However, many “newbies” need the following reminder:
Please include a link to Cecil’s column if it’s on the straight dope web site.
To include a link, it can be as simple as including the web page location in your post (make sure there is a space before and after the text of the URL).
And of course, the reference to Slug Signorino’s clever incorporation of the signature into the illustration immediately brings to mind Hirschfeld and his Ninas.
For those of you unfamiliar with Hirschfeld, he is a famous american illustrator who portrayed stars in the US entertainment field (starting with Broadway artists but eventually wielding his pen to portray movie and television actors, musicians, etc…) After his daughter was born he started hiding her name (Nina) in his drawings and after 1960 his signature would be followed by a number that indicated the number of hidden “Ninas”.
I have a framed Slug original (a portrait of myself in a skimpy dominatrix outfit with a whip, of course)and I was disappointed for the longest time that he hadn’t signed it. Six months later I found his signature; letters skipping through the picture near the bottom.
Come on JillGat, don’t leave Colibri hanging! Just e-mail that scanned Slug Signorino drawing over to Shayna and have her put it on the people pages toot sweet.
Waitamoment… What “No porn” rule? I thought it was the “No-porn-except-for-SDSAB-members” rule.
Does Arnold at least have permission to forward it to Shayna?
By the way, the illustration last week also had an extra signature, in amongst the “lorum ipsum” text. Does this maybe mean that Slug really does like pain itself? This might also explain his portrait of JillGat.
Dunno about Slug. But in the drawing it looks like Jill has been trying out the amatory techniques of the female praying mantis (as she proposed to do in another thread).
