How much damage would a collision with a small car do to a very large bear?
Let’s say the bear is a Kodiak or a Polar bear, the car is a Toyota Yaris –
– going about 30 mph.
Would the bear be killed? Severely injured? Just slightly banged up? Enraged but unharmed?
(I don’t know why I think up scenarios like this – I just can’t help it…)
Well, anyway, any information, or speculation, would be appreciated.
It would kill the bear, and there is an excellent chance that the bear would have less damage than the Toyota.
I saw a Corolla that hit a deer once. Dear dead, Toyota was totaled. I would like to remind you that a deer is maybe 20% of the weight of a large bear.

We had an couple in a small car hit a 2,000 pound bison in Yellowstone National Park back in the early 1980s. At night. Going about 55 mph. The bison did not survive the incident. The couple, did, barely.
About a dozen grizzlies had a fine feast for for several days afterward.
If anybody wants to do math the curb weight of a Yaris 2,311 pounds. The average mature adult male kodiak is apparently around 1100 pounds.
Though according to this site the largest bear record goes to a polar bear that weighed in at 2,210 pounds. So for that you can just imagine driving one Yaris into a parked Yaris at 30 miles per hour.
