I saw two of them yesterday. A small SUV that has an open rear deck like a mini-pickup truck. The name is embossed on the tailgate but is not real high relief and is monotone so all I could make out is the end of the name, “----cross”. Searching turns up the Toyota Corolla Cross but that is a hatchback.
It was probably a Santa Cruz. That’s pretty much the only thing that looks like that that’s reasonably common, I think. Cruz is kind of close to Cross.
I mean to be technically correct (the best kind of correct!) Cruz is Spanish for cross so you’re dead on.
That said there’s also the Isuzu Vehicross, but I don’t think it had a bed.
That’s gotta be it. Looking at photos of the Santa Cruz tailgates some do have the letters painted in contrasting paint.
