Smallville- 5/14/2003- Who was the voice of Jor-El?

I know I’ve read that a well-known actor was voicing Jor-El, but for the life of me, I can’t remmber who it is. It sounded familiar- at one point, it sounded like Sean Connery, but www.comics2film , where I thought I read the information before, only alludes to it being “someone meaningful” to the Superman and his fans.

Any ideas?

And BTW, last night’s epi was awesome, and the season finale looks like it’s going to be pretty crazy too.

Thanks in advance,

Make that www.comics2film.com

According to the people on the boards at Television Without Pity, it was Terence Stamp.

Thanks, gallows fodder! Well, Stamp would certainly fit the bill for being meaningful to Supes fans, wouldn’t he?

(FYI everybody–like me–who didn’t know who Terence Stamp was: General Zod from Superman II.)

The voice should have first sounded in the beginning of the episode, when Lana brought Clark the cake. “Kal-El… shut up and blow out the candles!”

For someone who was “waiting for [Lana’s interest] for so long”, he sure didn’t waste any time to interrupt the tender moment…

One question, are we all sure it was JOR-EL? I mean, granted it was coming from the ship, but maybe it was the ship’s artificial intelligence speaking.

Maybe the whole “the last son will rule” thing wasn’t Jor-El’s intention at all. Maybe Clark is being manipulated by…

Zod.

Maybe the ship will turn out to be Braniac in this incarnation and try to drive Supes’ to be a bad guy.

Can’t confirm it, but I believe they’ve said no other Kryptonians will show up. Something about saving them for the movie, I believe. Dammit. I like Zod. I want a real bad Superguy, not just Clark looking pouty in leather.

I’m not sure the voice of Jor-El would qualify as another Kryptonian actually being introduced- it would really only be a recording, or something like one, at least.

photopat- no the episode never actually identifies the voice as that of Jor-El, but the comics2film site that I linked to above does have an article that speaks about a theretofore unnamed actor voicing Jor-El; one who would be significant to Supes fans, and the voice did come from the ship and all, so I just made the logical jump.

And though I can’t get through to gallows fodder’s link right now, I believe it may actually credit Stamp as “voice of Jor-el”
, though I admit that I just took his word for it, and haven’t actually wandered over there to confirm yet.

I was thinking maybe it refers to Lex. He’s the youngest son, and he’s clearly right on the edge of becoming evil.

Was Lucas Dunleavy Lex’s older brother? I don’t know why that never registered with me.

Anyhow, here’s another pretty good site: www.kryptonsite.com - it’s full of spoilers, which it claims are only speculation, but some are obviously more spot on than others.

It claims that Stamp is Jor-El.

But the Brainiac idea would be great… I’m sure that it would break the spirit of the “no flight, no tights” rule though.

Can’t wait for Lex to finally go EEEEvil!!!
