Smarties Candy question

I find it extremely odd that, according to the smarties.com site, the green ones are Strawberry flavored.

Whatever. I eat them one roll at a time anyway.

And for the edification of our non-American dopers, the candy sold in America under the name “Smarties” is a confection consisting mostly of dextrose and fructose, compressed into little biconcave disks and sold in cellophane rolls of 15. If they have any flavor other than sugar, all I can say is it’s subtle.

Hmmmm, Cadbury’s…

–The first milk chocolate U.S. citizens taste is likely to be influenced by one Milton Hershey. Mr. Hershey did not invent milk chocolate with a shelf life, he just did it in the U.S. first. And he did it on his own, without the help of the Swiss or English confectioners that preceeded him. His (Hershey’s) process causes the milk used to go slightly sour while it was being mixed. That is probably the difference you taste.
For mass produced chocolate with the shelf life of gravel you have to hand it to Milton.
For the really sinful stuff that will send you to chocolate heaven…well, it’s almost that time of year.
Christmas season seems to bring the European versions over in tantalizingly small portions.

I’m guessing this is also related to the red M&M scare – that the red dye causes cancer.
