Which smiley would be most useful in fighting ignorance? In other words, which execution is most useful?
IMHO:
Hijack can be readily conveyed with words.
Inspector (Sherlock) denotes, “Let’s look at this in more detail”. But I’m not sure that expressing such a sentiment is really necessary most of the time. (Though it may lower the odds of a pit-thread in scattered cases.)
I like :uhoh: (:nervous: ) because it is low key and fairly broad spectrum. It spans parts of :yuk: (when someone else comes up with a vile or crazy position), as well as general anti-social (pedantic?) behavior. It also covers :Iamanidiot: (although not as well as smackie does). Its inward orientation also lowers its flammability. It may also cover :backpeddle:. Also, it could be an improvement on the underused :o .
Uhoh’s artistic execution, however, is a little lame.
Smackie was well drawn and conceived. Kudos. It is likely to be used sarcastically, however. "Oh, and I should have known that :smack: " It’s also a fairly narrow-spectrum smilie.
Dubious seems to fit the SDMB fairly well. I wonder whether it is excessively negative though. Interestingly, it seems to be more of a prefix -posted before a statement (in response to somebody else)- than a suffix.
For next time, I am currently working on :bemused: It may be a kinder :dubious: and a useful variant of the winky.
Of course, approval voting allows us to pick more than one choice. Still, I am wondering which icon is most functional.
