I order from yesmoke as well, and it’s dirt cheap and the cigs are decent.
But if I end up buying a pack, I end up paying 5.50 a pack around here. If I run out at work and have to buy cigs in NYC, it usually costs me about 7.50 a pack. It’s no wonder I’ve dropped to less than half a pack a day.
$2.99 a pack (purchased by the carton - not including tax) in SoCal. I’ve recently gotten them for $2.70 per in a BX (military) here.
I’ve recently heard an NPR report that New Yorkers are paying up to $70.00 per carton. That would cause me to quit…
7-11 type stores run $5 a pack, I generally pay 38 per carton at the smoke shop.
They're talking about another .75 tax increase per pack here, because, you know, it’s the smokers job to balance the state budget.
Thanks for all the replies.
So far, it looks like the average is around $3.58. (I say around because I didn’t do the math on the two-fer and three-fer’s and I wouldn’t know a pound from an ounce).
All the same, it seems my local prices are above the average, but my newly found gas station is below.
I’ll certainly be checking out the cigg by internet links you’ve provided. Thanks much!
Until the last couple of weeks, Marlboros (I smoke Mediums) were $2.39 or $2.79 a pack in my neck of the woods. Depending on which store you happened to be in. Then they hopped up to about $2.59 and $3.00. I don’t buy by the carton (because I always end up smoking far more) but I know you can get Marlboros for $23.99 a carton and Camels for about the same.
My boss smokes Benson and Hedges and they’re $4.10 a pack. Not sure why there is so much variation, but there definitely is.
Something to watch out for when ordering online – The Jenkins Report.
See, cigarettes themselves are pretty much the same price anywhere in the US. It’s the state taxes that make some places much more expensive than others.
Now, anybody can sell smokes via the web and ship them out of state. However, unless it’s an Indian Reservation, that company must file a Jenkins Report on a monthly basis listing what they’ve sold and who they’ve sold to.
We discovered this when my in-laws got a bill from the State Department of Taxation for the tax money on the cigarettes they bought from out-of-state. :smack:
So, now we only buy from Indian Reservation sites (such as the one in my previous post). We’ve been using them for about a year now, with no letters from the state demanding their cut.
I hear ya erislover. I smoked Newport for twenty years but for the last two years I’ve been smoking Zig Zag menthol, 7 bucks a can (including 200 papers) that’s at least equal to a carton of smokes, if not more, and I get filters that cost about 70 cents for 100. The Zig Zag is premium stuff, way better than Top or Buglar, and now, on those few occasions that I buy a pack of Newport, they don’t taste nearly as good as the rollies.
Even if I could afford to smoke “real” cigarettes, I’d still smoke the Zig Zag.
IF6WAS9: I feel for you. Jacks are terrible. Try a pouch of Zig Zag, and if you don’t like it better than Jacks, I’ll reimburse you the $1.09. You’ll cough a lot less.
I’m in spitting distance of Northern KY. I pay about $24/carton for Camels, including tax.
This lady my wife works with always gets these $5 off a carton RJR coupons in the mail, and gives them to me. So occasionally, it’s less than twenty bucks.
Prices around here vary quite a bit, but I’d say average about $4-$4.50 for a pack of Marlboros, before sales tax. I can usually find them for around $3.75 on sale, though.
