Snack food and personality

A friend of my wife’s says that she saw an article in a newspaper she got for free in a hotel in Rockford, Illinois in March. This article was about a study by some human development organization claiming a linkage between people’s choices fo snack food and their personality.

I haven’t been able to find any such thing. I looked at the USA Today web site and didn’t find anything.

Anybody know anything about this?

(I’m an ice cream, myself).

Never mind.

What Does Your Favorite Snack Food Reveal About You?

Speaking as an ACTUAL psychologist, these things never hold any empirical water. They read like horoscopes…they are so vague they are never wrong. Don’t get your psychological advice from USA today if you can avoid it.

Did you notice that the website belongs to the snack food international trade association? We now live in a country where “avertorials” and “edutainment” are confused with actual journalism and research.

Geez, I should have known that I was going to get stomped, and posted a disclaimer in the first mesage.

My wife is an HR consultant specializing in training and management/organizational development. She and I know that “study” is crap. She thought it might make the basis of a fun icebreaker in training sessions.

Yes, I noticed the ownership of the Web site. FYI, the “study” was carried out by The Smell & Taste Research Foundation Ltd., and even this cheesy (probably one-man) institution seems to be ashamed to post anything about the “study”.

I haven’t gone over to the Dark Side yet …
