Almost an hour in, best episode of the year. Great opening and Piven did great with his intro. The Skits have all been either funny or not bad. (Well except the ill-conceived MacGuyver take offs)

Agreed.
Those were fine, because they kept them short and didn’t outstay their welcome. The “moving the chains” sketch was kinda lame, though.
And, in the interest of appearing mature and sophisticated, I’m going to lie and say I didn’t find the Robert Smigel cartoon one bit funny.
Boy, AFI’s frontman was practically doing mime up there during the second song thanks to the atrocious sound.
Personally I think they should change SNL’s format to Weekend Update gags and SNL Digital Shorts. WU’s “Really?!” bit was funny. Simple, clean, and funny. They should stick to that.
I was let down by the Digital Short this week. It seemed to fall back on the new trend in SNL humour - repeat the joke over and over and over and over until you run out of time.
Of course, I always love the A-hole skits. Every one they’ve done is the same but I still find it funny as hell.
“My wife”
“What? Whaa? What did you just say?”
“She was doing Borat. Babe, do Borat again.”
“sigh… my wife”
In Canada, we have that, and it’s very funny. In fact, it’s been funny for 14 seasons now.
Well it started funny. The initial image of GWB as a chipmunk with the sped up real speech got a good laugh out of me. From there it was downhill, but still it got a good laugh out of me.

Just becuase the mics are pretty and golden-colored doesn’t mean they work worth a damn.
To quote the show itself… “really? REALLY?”
I thought the entire show was pretty terrible, and it elicited from me not a single laugh. (I did crack a smile a couple of times—at the first instance of the MacGyver parody and at the Andy Samberg rap thing.) But overall, uninspired and weak. Even the Smigel cartoon was intensely unfunny.
I expected better, because I think Piven’s Ari character on “Entourage” is endlessly hilarious; but then, SNL has a uncanny ability to waste or negate talent (e.g. Hugh Laurie, Peter Sarsgaard).
Those had me scratching my head. Wasn’t MacGuyver on the air about 20 years ago? And hasn’t he been parodied about a million different times since then? Are they going to start doing “Love Boat” sketches next?
Things I liked:
First guy to dance-- since I’ve been hating on dancing lately, that cracked me the hell up.
Samberg as the rapper-- pretty funny
Weekend Update-- good, as usually. Liked the “Really?!?” quite a bit. All of it was decent except for the bit with Rich Little. Rich Little? WTF?
Things I especially didn’t like:
The Smigel cartoon sucked.
AFI was corny and their sound crapped out on the second song.
The Unicorn sketch was dumb.
Moving the chains.
Worst. Smigel. Ever.
Liked the ‘Really?!’ Weekend Update bit and Andy Samberg rapping (as much as the first time, even), but everything else was craaap.
I loved how Common was on the show, with no fanfare or anything. What’s up with that?
Aw crap. I fell asleep before 11:00. Does this typically show up on YouTube?
Was that a whoosh? The first time television ever made war on YouTube was over an SNL skit.
It was a whoosh, wasn’t it, and now I look dumb.
I’ve seen that on the guide but haven’t tuned in. I’ll make a point to next time. thanks.
I thoght it was lousier than the last few, a reversion to a sort of “Hyuck-yuk! Poop is funny!” idea of humor. I thought the opening monologue and Weekend Update were pretty good, but that was it.
