Snl 10/23

Just some nasty video of some naked guy. At least I think that’s what it was. I only watched a half second and then closed it real fast once I realized what it was. But it was particularly jarring because I wasn’t expecting it.

WARNING: This link has also been changed to a not safe for work video.

I dunno what the hell is goin’ on here, and I don’t have time to check it out in detail. Moderators are not interested in justice, Moderators are interested in quiet. Since some of the links were wonky, and others were completely inappropriate, I have deleted 'em all. Let God sort 'em out.

Yup. To further clarify, the actress to whom (which?) Homer is talking explains that “very few cartoons are aired live. It puts a tremendous strain on the animators’ wrists.”

So does anyone have any good links for us folks just now coming along?

This one is legit as of this moment. Get it while it’s safe!

Her little hoe-down is being called a “cotton eyed joe dance of doom.” TM someone on FameTracker.

That’s good.

I’m also enjoying the use of the word “poptart” to describe “singers” in this genre.

Either I’m going crazy, or they didn’t show the edited version in Seattle (the Over the Air version if it matters).

Normally I can usually work up some sympathy embarassment or pity for someone in situations like this but in her case I have none. She is just as has been stated a “manufactured star”. She has taken her popularity on a TV show and her connection to a famous singer to manufacture a supposed singing career. These kids like Ashlee and Hillary get a little fame and popularity for one thing and they have to squeeze the “fame nickel” until the buffalo poops it’s brains out and everyone is sick of them. Being a little famous isn’t enough, they have to insinuate themselves into every aspect of it as they can. TV, movies, music, fashion design, gourmet cooking … if it can be exploited, they’ll do it.

I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, thinking she might actually have some of the same vocal talent as her sister until I actually had occasion to hear her sing on The Tonight Show and my reaction was pretty much “what the f…?” I can sing as well as she can and I can’t sing. Electronic trickery does not a singer make. She is as much a professional musician as is Paris Hilton.

The things that make me angry about this sort of thing is the young kids being suckered into buying these poptart’s merchandise and those people who actually can sing who don’t ever get a chance because of all the hype wasted on these manufactured singers with no talent.

That dance she did was AWSOME! LOL!

I do feel sorry for her band though. This was probably the biggest moment of their musical careers playing on SNL and it got all fucked up like that. Poor guys.

I don’t get it now that I saw the ashlee.us video.

Seems like the beginning of that song is supposed to have her singing with a taped backup of the same words. So when that legit, non-lipsynch track was accidentally played, the band pretty quickly started that song instead, instead of just stopping and starting the right song over from scratch.

I’m sure more than a few people were confused at the time, and maybe Ashlee somehow indicated they should continue Pieces of Me.

So, yeah, walking of stage was still bratty, but I understand how she could have been frustrated if the band rolled with the mistake and kept her from singing the right song. And the lipsynching thing is pretty tenuous once you watch the end of the video at ashlee.us

Don’t tell anyone. But I actually bought both of the songs on iTunes so I could be sure which song they were playing in the video.

It sounded like the bass player was trying to play what I assume is the correct song but the drummer (who probably had the lipsync feed going into his ear) kept playing along with the incorrect song that was being pumped thru his ear piece.

COMEDY!

<slight hijack>

Ironically, Britney sang (one song) live at her last SNL performance. The other had backup vocals, but her mic was on IIRC; though I don’t blame her for synching that one-- it would be difficult to do that and dance, simultaneously.

My apologies for whatever weirdness happened there. That link showed the same video as the other links when I watched and then posted it.

Well, apparently it was deemed newsworthy to show up on the local news. The official reason for the lip-synching was that she was “losing her voice.”
It was mildly cringe-worthy.

Back on the topic of the episode as a whole, I thought it was quite entertaining… highlights included:
-The always funny Chris Matthews skits, particularly Zell Miller
-The opening monologue number (Mmmm… Tina Fey dancing!)
-The business with the bananas on Weekend Update.

OK, I went to bed early and missed Ashlee’s second performance, but when I saw the first one, I noticed something. When she started singing “Pieces of Me” I heard two vocalists at first, and then it switched over completely to the lip-synched vocals. My immediate thought was that I was hearing Ashlee’s live singing *along with * a pre-recorded version at the beginning of the song. I thought that SNL made a mistake on this first song, and that only Ashlee was supposed to be hearing the pre-recorded version (in her earpiece to help her sing the song). The sound technicians then decided to play only the lip-synched version after that, silencing her live vocals. I wonder what the people in the live audience heard?

Huh? How is her response their fault?

The Associated Press story on the incident.
