SNl rarely has anything anymore that really captures my attention but Rowlf and the Swedish chef was cute. I was amused by the muppets being fleshed out so well.
yeah, I love Seth Rogen. Being so friendly with Bill Hader probably helped. Did anyone recognize that Bill was in EVERY sketch (except for MacGyver knockoff).
And the muppet thing with Adam Sandberg was GREAT too. I swear to god, I think if it weren’t for Bill and Adam, I wouldn’t watch this show at all.
Andy Samberg.
Both of them are great, and Kristen Wiig is pretty terrific too. Although I miss the hell out of Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and especially the underrated Chris Parnell, the current SNL cast is my favorite in years, and perhaps ever.
I was really enjoying this show last year with the same cast, so I hope they get it together this year.
I particularly like the spoofs where they are singing and dancing like deep dish something or other. I thought the hip hop kids last season was great.
I only caught a few minutes, and thankfully they included Rowlf and the Swedish Chef. It really made me smile.
The highlights for me were Spoon and Chevy Chase.
My faves were Chevy, and the “live” Muppets, of which Janis/Maya was THE BEST.
But - second week in a row, the opening credits promised us a Smigel cartoon, and none was to be had. What’s up with that?
I thought the Chevy Chase bit was kind of sad- he’s aging pretty badly, and he seemed to have some sort of facial tic thing going there, and didn’t seem to know where he was. At least he’s finally gotten rid of the bad rugs.
I really tried to enjoy Spoon, but the mix was so horrible that I really couldn’t. The horns were muted, the vocals were subdued, and everything just sounded muddy.
I thought the Chevy segment was pretty good, although I found his glasses flashing in the light to be very distracting. Either he should wear contacts or glasses without glass, his segment is just a couple minutes. His opening line was great. “I’m still…, and your still not …”.
That was the longest weekend update segment I have ever seen. If they don’t pick up the pace of these shows I’m only going to give at a chance for another 5 years or so.
I don’t get why the still have Chevy on- pretty much every cast member has cited him as being the biggest dick they have had had on. Even Will Ferrell who doesn’t badmouth anyone said Chevy was a total asshole.
I’m going to have to check YouTube because I erased the show after Weekend Update. Given how horrible all the skits were up until then, who could blame me?
There was one last week with the AG duo.
Couldn’t even make it to Spoon, the show was so unfunny. Kristen Wiig, especially, annoys me more and more as time goes on. The unfunnily repetitive Target lady, the unfunnily repetitive movie reviewer aunt bitch, and this week the skit where she was playing Seth Rogen’s twin sister and kept delivering the unfunnily repetitive line “I said we!” - so over the top retarded it reminded me of Melanie Hutsell, arguably the worst SNL cast member ever. Ugh. And seriously, are there no black comedians in America funnier than Kenan Thompson? I know they’ve got to have their token African-American, but come on.
Melanie Hutsell, the worst? Not to get into a debate, but NO ONE was worse than Horatio Sanz. Jimmy Fallon was pretty bad, too.
SNL is still on? I thought they cancelled it years ago.
I mean, what’s the target demographic anymore? People who don’t have cable and are too drunk to turn the tv off?
Oh, there are plenty of candidates. In fact, Chris Rock, when he was on, suffered from the same problem as Horatio/Jimmy - he was always cracking up (or looking like he was about to crack up) at his own lines. And his timing sucked. He didn’t really blossom into a comedic force until he left the show.
