It’s funny because it’s true. I swear everyone from the Baltic starts out speaking English that well, and just like that, and in a few years they speak it better than me. Er, I. I know some Estonians who have been here only a few years and they have almost entirely lost their accents. I hate them because I know I could not duplicate that feat.
When I tossed bags at Greyhound decades ago an older couple from Rockford, IL, came to pick up their son and daughter-in-law from Sweden. The parents had the cliched Ole and Lena, sing-song accent. The kids had only a slight, generic-European accent.
