Saturday Night I was watching an SNL skit. Apparently there was a crime, and some kind of police official decided to call the band “The White Stripes” to ask their assistance with the situation.
The band proceeded to play a song, then the police official calls back, and tells them that it is now too late. There is more to the skit, but I believe that’s enough to identify it.
Questions
Was that really the band, or impersonators?
Was this merely kind of absurdist comedy, or is there some kind of story behind why this should be funny that I am missing? Some running SNL joke, or subtextual statement about the band?
not the band, that was jimmy fallon and drew barrymore as jack and meg white, resp. The White Stripes are, in fact, a real band
It was absurdist, also I think the joke was to make fun of the odd group dynamic (jack says meg is his big sister, ostensibly she’s his ex-wife. no cite, but I promise it’s true). and jack’s squacky voice and the fact that he postures with an English lilt (he’s from detroit)
that said, I think they’re pretty damn good, I recommend all their albums
Thank you. I like the band too, but I never pay attention to what bands look like… and never really follow a band’s story unless they’re fricking huge.
I mainly enjoyed Drew’s monologue with ET & the rest (tho Rachel Dratsch’s bit confusing Drew w/ the Poltergeist little girl made me cringe) AND the Kerry, GWB, Clinton & Hillary in the bar skit. Now THAT was freakin hilarious! And I’m a Bush supporter!
