Snooty Upscale Malls

The success of the Houston Galleria has much to do with being anchored by not Just top scale department stores, but connected to two upscale hotels and business skyscrapers. It is not a place that is a shopping center only. A whole part of town, complete with enough skyscrapers to be confused with a downtown area from a distance, is referred to as the Galleria area. Although the city and the Galleria probably downplays this.

THe question of who ownes all of the Galleria’s I too would like to know.

As Shayna and Rastahomie discussed there are two fancy malls in St.Louis :(It’s definitely not The Galleria, it’s called Frontenac Plaza.)It’s both. I was able to buy a key case at Plaza Frontenac. Some restaurants are pretty plain, but no fast food. They have a piano player. Probably no Santa. But no bouncer either.

opus, were you shopping at Tysons II (Galleria) by any chance?

I remember when we had a Christmas singing gig there, They had their own pianist playing out the Christmas songs.

If it wasn’t for the fact that I was in a tux, I’m sure the security guard would have kicked me out. “Don’t even think about entering foot in our establishment, Poverty Boy!”
The girls were dreamng of someday wearing one of those thousand dollar Neiman Marcus dresses

By the way, opus, I could only think of two “Galleries”; Tysons Galleria and Mazza Gallerie (yes, with the “ie” and just as snootie!)

The upscale mall in Montreal - well, there are two that I know of: Place Montreal Trust and Westmount Square, the latter a Mies Van Der Rohe original. I have to walk through it to get to the metro. Meh.
