Snow, cold, winter. What took you so long?

No snow on the ground here in Niagara Falls and temperatures still above freezing. We’re at about 1/5th of the annual yearly snowfall. I’ve talked to people who have been here for 50 years and they can’t remember a winter like this.

Yeah, it’s an upslope storm, hardly any snow west of the divide though. I’m in Summit County and we have maybe 2 inches. Just over the divide in Park County we did pick up a few more than that.

After seeing the storm warnings in Colorado, I checked our Wisconsin forecast, as we are typically 3-4 days behind the Rockies. Yet the next 7-day forecast does not include any precipitation at all, and temps from 20’s-30s every day. So we can expect what little snow is on the ground now to be gone soon, and the lack of Lake Michigan ice to continue.

Groundhogs, rejoice. You are right some of the time.

If it helps, the Canadian maritimes have apparently been getting ALL of Canada’s winter. At once. Since the beginning of January we have had probably 100cm of snowfall, at least one good thick ice storm, some cold snaps down to -35 and -25, and right now it’s a clear, icy cold day about -10, with about a foot of snow on the ground. I am definitely getting my season’s wear out of the parka this year.

I just did the annual Canadian pilgrimage to Mexico, and came back to -1C. I didn’t even need to escape winter!

See any good beatings while you were there?

Down here in Colorado Springs there isn’t jack, either. Monument got a lot, which makes sense given the storm, but so did Woodland Park.

I have a friend on the other side (east) of the divide that works for Clear Creek county. She said that they shut the offices down at 11 this morning. When the county gov shuts down it must be pretty bad. I work for Summit County and we have shut down once in the twenty years I’ve been here.

So all over the country has been mild, eh. I thought it was just here on the east coast, DC, Philly, NY, Carolinas, etc. etc.

I’m in Lakewood, and we’ve got about 14 inches here and it’s still snowing. Luckily, we’re well-stocked except for whiskey, and there’s a liquor store within walking distance that I’ll visit later to see if they’re open. Vegetarian stew simmering on the stove, I’ll make cornbread later, and spend the weekend reading zombie fiction by the fire.

Just last week I was bitching about how warm it’s been this year. Looks like February is starting out with a bang.

We got a good dumping until about 9AM, then a big hole opened right over Boulder on the radar map and just sat there. There hasn’t been more than a flurry in four hours. That hole appears to be closing, however. It looks like we have about 15" of accumulation, which I will confirm as I am going out to shovel it now.

We got about 13’’ in the Highlands so far, and Ryan Adams just rescheduled his show at Buell Theater to tomorrow night due to hazardous road conditions. Just as well, I wasn’t looking forward to going out there tonight anyway. It’s coming in sideways right now, it had stopped for a bit.

I used to live in Colorado and always rather enjoyed the big spring snow dumps~!

Meanwhile here in SE Michigan, it’s February and I haven’t had to break out the snow shovel this winter. Biggest accumulation we’ve had is about three inches so far. The lakes aren’t frozen, and scores of Canada geese didn’t bother migrating this year. I’m getting a bit nostalgic for real snow.

We’ve had a total of 3, maybe 4 inches of snow here in Rhode Island this entire winter, so far.

Average snowfall for November to January ~ 17 inches.

Average temperature this winter, near 37. It usually averages around 31, so yea, it is an odd winter. This past Tuesday it was near 60. Unbelievable.

It’s gonna snow in July, I just know it. :frowning:

Just shoveled our personal driveway out to the complex driveway. About 16 inches in the open, with snow-blown drifts up to 3 feet in the corners. The snowplow that plows the complex driveway pushed snow into walls that are about 5 feet tall. Still snowing lightly.

Cripes, it was so humid that I turned my car A/C on on my way home from work. At 7 p.m., an hour after the sun had gone down. I don’t always turn on the A/C in the middle of the friggin’ summer because I’m such a cheapskate, and here it is January and I couldn’t stand it. WTF?

Supposedly storms are a-blowin’ in tomorrow with a cold front. We’ll see … we shall ssssseeeeee… strokes cat menacingly
ETA: if we don’t get at least one good freeze before spring, we’re going to be drowning in bugs. It’s gonna be a mostquito-y summer, I can tell.

We got about 6 inches total on top of Hoshier pass in CO. Just south Breckenridge. The ski areas in Summit county are reporting 1-2 inches.

The front range really needs the snow though. Farnmers and ranchers. But the mountain snow is the water provider for summer.

What is “snow”?

Any chance our friends in CO can share some of the wealth with us in NorCal? We have been stuck in “fall” since October. Every day it has been dry, high in the 60s, low in the low 40s in the Sacramento area. The mountains are bereft of snow, dry and brown. Last year was a banner year but this one is dismal. Never mind snow sports, we may be in for a nasty drought and fire year unless someone aims that firehose in our direction.

Monday morning in Central NY. About 40 degrees, not a flake of snow on the ground in weeks, sky as blue and clear as in October. Nothing untoward predicted for the next week or so other than a flurry to a trace. However. I have a very important appointment mid-February where I have to drive up a mountain. I PREDICT all hell is going to break loose on the eve of that very day, and the weather man will be wetting his pants with excitement over “winter’s finally here!!!” I predict. If there’s foul weather mid-February in my area, that will be because of me.
