Even though I know I won’t make it to work tomorrow, I have to say I’m just about over my snow day excitement. I think I have cabin fever. We have plenty of food (including 2 gallons of milk) and so far no power outages, but I’m really not looking forward to another day stuck in tthe house.
I’m also really praying for some money-hungry neighbor kid to come soliciting with a snow shovel tomorrow, as we apparently do not have one :smack:
Another northern hoosier checking in. We have about 8" down with another 4" forecast in Fort Wayne and it’s still snowing. An official Blizzard Warning was issued this morning and it hasn’t let up all day. The winds are just brutal. I didn’t hear how high the wind gusts were today but it’s been memorable.
I was supposed to travel on business to Cincinnati today, delayed it until tomorrow but I still doubt that’s gonna be possible.
About 15 miles south of me, the county is in a Level 4 Snow Emergency…no travel is authorized except for emergency vehicles. Law enforcement can actually invite you for a stay in the local jail if you’re caught out in this crap.
Unfortunately (fortunately?) I work out of my home so I don’t get “snow days” but on the other hand, I can work in my jammies!
As hell has truly frozen over and the university is closed for the day, I’m going back to bed now that I’ve verified this news through official sources.
What confuses me about these emergency levels is that County X’s Level 4 Snow Emergency = County Y’s Level 3 = County VW’s Disaster declaration. I think the local news should put out a cheat sheet so we understand where we can and can’t go.
My county (next to Ruby’s but across the state line) is under a Level 3 and that means that we’re staying home today. DH travels those counties south of Fort Wayne daily and so he can’t work either. Darn.
Latest update. The snow has stopped but it drifted so bad overnight that we woke up to 2 feet of snow in the driveway (a rather long driveway), it has drifted up against the front door high enough to block the screen door from opening. The cars in the driveway have drifts up to the windows. We just talked to my sister in law down the street who has five kids. They will be over later to dig us out thank god.
The dogs have to traverse a 3 foot drift at the back door to get out to the yard. They seem to love it though.
Another Hoosier checking in. Snow day for me as well. I live in Indy, and the streets are a complete mess. I have a 2 foot drift in front of my garage door, and a very long driveway to shovel. My immediate boss got stuck in the parking lot at work, and had to have her husband get her from work last night. She called the head honcho and he said “it only took me ten minutes to get home and the roads were clear.” He’s 40 miles north of us, living in a swanky area that ALWAYS gets plowed out – we live on the edge of the 'hood that never sees a snowplow (or any other city service).
This a.m. she called to say forget coming in – she can’t get in, and I can’t get out. If the Big Boss complains, he can drive down here and pick us up and take us to work. Or shovel my driveway.
My dog hates the snow. He has short legs and is having trouble lifting high enough to pee. I did buy some pashkes so we’re good on food and stuff.
Purdue has cancelled all classes for today, as well, and we are still under a snow emergency–no one but emergency personnel is supposed to be out driving.
Lots of snow (15-20cm) in Toronto, and it’s still coming down. Yesterday when I left the gym, it was quite cold, and a fine powdery snow was falling. Today, it was ‘warmer’, and the snow was larger and fluffier. The Toronto buses were all messed up, though, and it took me an extra hour to get to work.
I have no idea how much snow is out there as it’s still coming down pretty heavy.W e closed the office - which we have never done in the five yhears i’ve been there - and it’s a lovely winterland outside. What a nice day!
Oh boy! Windchill warning for the city of Toronto. “Feels like -30”! Whee!
As the storm has gone by to our southeast, we’ll get strong cold northwest winds for the next while. I saw an animated weather map on the Weather Network last night as I was at the gym. Fascinating.
Woo! All classes after noon were canceled today (my first was at 1 PM.) My roommate who works the night shift was told the plant was closed today, so he won’t be going, and another roommate got home from work early, so they went out and bought some booze. I don’t think I should get drunk, cause in theory my sweetie and I have Valentine’s Day plans, but with this weather, and my car out of commission for unrelated reasons, I don’t see that happening.
Classes cancelled again today. Someone dropped the ball big time on this one. For some reason there was no salt on the sidewalks, at least the sidewalks in my part of campus. Since we got a bit of sleet/light drizzle there is now a good 1/2" of ice on the sidewalks. It’s fine now because there is snow on top, but once that gets blown/tramped off it’s going to be messy.
Well three of the Stillwell nephews dug us out finally. It took them 3 hours and a kind neighbor with a snowblower but I can now get out of my driveway! The funny part is when I drove them home I got stuck backing out of their driveway. Luckily their father is the proud new owner of a 4x4 and he was overly excited to hook up the tow chain and pull me out.
