Gee what a surprise for us here in Colorado! More snow coming!!! Yippie!! Starting Saturday, continuing into Sunday & Monday. I am so looking forward to March 28th when we leave for Sunny Mexico and I can thaw out! I am going to bed now.
Snow threatened for tonight has not yet appeared. I’m sure it’ll be around in the morning. (10cm or so, on top of the ice that’s hanging about already.)
Make it be June.
Here in the suburbs of Cleveland there is finally snow on the ground, but not enough to cover the driveway yet, so if I’m lucky I won’t have to shovel before I leave for work!
We in the DC area might actually see measurable snow next week! Not our first snowfall though, we had scattered snow showers before Christmas but they didn’t amout to anything.
Portland OR checking in with all kindsa snow action! Silly me, I left the house at about 0630 and in my defense I must say that on the east side of town where I live the snow had barely started and it was very dry and blowing around in little whirlwinds on the ground. Then I got toward downtown and it started sucking pretty hard. I got stuck in the Vista Ridge tunnel westbound for almost a half an hour, because a couple of semis had stalled, slid, run into a buncha cars or just generally gave up the ghost at the end of the tunnel. Once I got past that, it was just thickass snow on the ground with a shitload more coming down to join it. I gave it up at the Sylvan exit and managed to make my way back home by about 0900 in spite of all efforts to stop me and the valiant attempts my ass made to suck up ALL the upholstery on the seat.
I have never been so happy in my life to have brand new tires–siped, at that! My car handled like a champ, just had issues with getting up momentum on hills, and a pox on all of those out there with 4WD vehicles who were gratuitously robbing me of my delta vee–hey assholes, not everybody has a Family Truckster and some of us need to keep moving or we’re sideways in a ditch, all right?
It’s still coming down like gangbusters, I have close to six inches in my front yard–the silly cat wanted to go out so we put him on his harness and let him go for it. Here’s a picture of the silly cat with the silly dog taken through the front window. We let the big dawg out too–she’s a Malemute so this stuff doesn’t befront her at all, but she gets tired out and her back leg starts to pain her after a while, so now she’s happily curled up in her weather proof dog house… Here’s a link to a video of the snowproof dog.
It’s supposed to warm up tomorrow to almost 40 degrees so the great snow flurry will probably be short lived, but it’s pretty fun while it lasts–assuming one doesn’t have to drive in it, and by “one” I mean “me!”
I did just love the videos taken downtown of all the gigantic SUVs sliding down the hill playing bumper cars in slow mo chain reaction pileups–dorks think that “4WD” = “inertialess.”
Psst… changes “may” be afoot at the weekend. Some parts may well get snow on Monday but it looks like a brief cold snap.
True story:
My fifth-grade class was once involved in a project in writing pen pal letters to fellow schoolgirls in Pakistan. I wrote mine on the best stationery in my best cursive letters, and said something to the effect of, “It’s so cold in Canada in the winter that if you step outside at night and breathe, it turns into an icicle.”
Several months later, I got a beautifully written reply on tissue-thin purple paper with pencil sketches at the margins–and was bemused by the reply: “In my country that is considered a lie and we would not say it.”
:smack: :smack: That’s me. An international faux pas at the age of ten.
Although looking outside at tonight’s weather, it might not be so far from the truth…
It snowed here today. First time since Feb 14, 2004.
We can’t drive on icy roads, so all the schools and businesses were closed. Will be tomorrow, too. Five day weekend!
Bad part is no mail since Saturday, and they don’t expect to deliver again until Thursday. I’m expecting some checks and some netflix.
