Snowball fighting, psychologically good or bad?

Snowball fights…, a great pastime, rule variations anyone?
We used to just build forts, have timeouts so we could build up ammo,
rebuild our forts and then game on! The softer the snow the less it stings, etc.
I’m curious to the psychologic pastime significance of snowball fighting, or
where it originated from. Don’t say war or fighting please, its got to be better than that.

IANAP (I Am Not a Psychologist), but I can imagine that snowball fighting might actually be seen as a healthy war of “venting” aggression and hostility, without actually hurting anyone.

Besides…to quote Calvin; “C’mon, it’s just snow.”

My favorite tactic was to launch a barrage of up-in-the-air, on an arc…heading toward the victim…victim will most certainly look up…and KaPOW! nail him with fast balls.
